About

Summary

As a Health Coach, certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, I have made it my mission to help pregnant women struggling with Gestational Diabetes. I have discovered that doctors just do not have time to sit down with you and counsel you on how to manage Gestational Diabetes. Also, access to a nutritionist or health coach locally is often limited either due to lack of personnel or restrictive benefit coverage.

So my goal is to help fill in this void for women struggling with Gestational Diabetes by providing accurate, easy to read information that can be applied immediately.

This eBook is a collection of my most helpful and frequently discussed tips I have given over the years to pregnant women struggling with Gestational Diabetes.

I discovered that unless you were on social media at the precise time that I posted my invaluable tips, many of you were missing them altogether! I heard that even if someone went directly to my pages/profiles, it was time consuming to sort through my tips and posts to find exactly what you were looking for.

This is when I knew I had to create this eBook so everyone can have access to ALL of my most effective tips IMMEDIATELY and always have the information at your fingertips! I don’t want you to spend hours and hours scrolling through news feeds only to miss something very important!

FOOD TIPS

1.   You may have heard this before, but keeping a simple food diary really is an important first step to becoming aware of what you put into your body…and how foods/drinks affect your blood sugars. It does not have to be fancy. Use a simple notebook, your Notes app on your phone, or even the voice recorder on your phone. Whatever works for you! Just taking that FIRST step to becoming more AWARE of what you eat will help you start thinking about making better choices. The important details to track are:

  i. Time you eat/drink

ii. Details of what you eat/drink

iii. Blood sugar readings and times

If your doctor or nurse gave you a tracking document but you don’t like it, you can download my complimentary Food Diary. Click HERE to download your copy! Hopefully it will work for you.

2.   According to Dr. Hyman: "Insulin resistance occurs when your diet is full of empty calories and has an abundance of quickly absorbed sugars, liquid calories, and carbohydrates (like bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes). When this happens, your cells slowly become resistant to the effects of insulin" .SOLUTION: change what you eat. Ask yourself is this food a vegetable, fruit, lean meat, or whole grain? If you can say YES, then YES you SHOULD BE eating it! If you say NO, then DO NOT EAT IT!

3.   Are you wondering why your blood sugar readings are too LOW at times? One possible reason is you may not be eating frequently enough. It is very important to eat frequently (about every 3 hours) and not skip a meal! When you go too many hours without a balanced snack/meal of protein and complex carbs (aka veggies, legumes, whole grains) then your blood sugars drop. This is also when you are more vulnerable to reach for a sugary snack that will spike your blood sugars. This creates a miserable roller coaster effect on your blood sugars. You may need to plan ahead to make sure you are prepared to take a break and eat. Put a cooler in your car or pack healthy foods in insulated lunch bags if you don’t have access to a refrigerator at work.

4.   Another possible reason for lower blood sugar readings if you are on medications already: As you eat healthier, your blood sugars with naturallylower! This means if you are on mediations, your current dosage may actually become too strong! Please keep
