Summary

A Rented World, the sequel to A Ghostly Shade of Pale, continues the Michael Parker trilogy. It is used in college and high school English classes, and endorsed by Criminal Minds writer/producer, Jim Clemente.

Captain Michael Parker's political enemies come after him at the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and he jumps from the frying pan into the fire when he resigns his commission and enters the corporate world and high-level political campaigns...what he calls the unholy trinity of politics, crime, and business.

Parker finds that the organized crime figures who tried to kill him, when he was in drug enforcement, were choir boys compared to the political criminals who use the full power of the government to punish those who threaten their power.

Treachery is all around as Parker journeys from Atlanta to Capitol Hill and the White House. Politicians threaten him, wiretappers work overtime, all the windows are locked on the 20th floor of his department to discourage jumpers, cars are sabotaged, his boss makes a pact with the devil, and Faustian deals are offered by powerful players in Washington if Michael will stand down and agree to go along and get along.

Everything Michael holds dear is threatened when he finds himself in over his head, but he stands to gain more than he could have ever hoped for.
