About this ebook
Grub, Bristle, and Ginger agree on only one thing: badgers and foxes cannot be friends. But when hunters chase Ginger and her mother out of their den, Mr. Badger and Mrs. Fox decide they should all live together. Grub, Bristle, and Ginger have a BIG PLAN to change their parents' minds . . . but it's going to take a lot of cooperation to prove that they just can't get along! This is the first book in the Mr. Badger and Mrs. Fox series.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mrs. Fox and her daughter Ginger have lost their home, but when they meet Mr. Badger and his three children, Mr. Badger invites them to stay. The four children (three badgers and one fox) are decidedly unhappy about this change. Sure that foxes and badgers could never get along, they have a plan to prove it...but then their plan backfires! A story of blended families coming together and working through their differences. This beginning graphic series would be of interest to a 1st-3rd grader, and especially to one reluctant to move from picture books to chapter books. The art is soft and lovely and the characters are drawn with clear personalities that still manage to hold their animal selves (while they do walk 'upright', they still are badger and fox shaped).Recommended.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Reason for Reading: This is a Cybils '10 nominee and required reading for me.Such a little insignificant book which I could write a lot about, but I won't as it's not worth it. I found the story very didactic, hit you over the head with 'you are being taught lessons here children', didactic. Anyone over seven will be wise to this right away and eyes my roll. Themes covered: arguing siblings, manners, racism (via animal species), single parents, blended families. The book is oversized softcover, picturebook size and at an easy reader level. The art is cute and captivating. As a Christian, I found the situation being portrayed somewhat disturbing. Two single parents, one widowed, the other separated (ie. still married) move in together for the sake of convenience. But the "moving in together" party causes neighbours to congratulate them on their new family. The children are encouraged to think of themselves as a family now and brothers and sisters while the parents are shown standing arm in arm in the evening light. By the end of the book the situation is certainly not a Christian lifestyle choice. Though the book's lesson is supposed to be promoting blended families, which would have been better served, imho, with an actual marriage and blending of two families instead of faking a family under irregular circumstances.
