This book is about my family and ancestral history dating back to the end of slavery. I have researched my family and have discovered 694 relatives so far--seven generations initially coming off a plantation in North Carolina at the end of slavery. My writing this book is to highlight my family of origin and my mother’s determination to educate, strengthen and embed in her children her sense of resolve and resiliency. She wanted to insure that we, in what is generation four of seven, could further pass this resolve and resiliency on to our offspring and ensure this continues and does so exponentially throughout the Adams-High family ancestral history. It is about the difficulties I had as a young child becoming “the man of the house” at age five or six, charged with the task of making a way for my 3 younger siblings, as my mother was separating and divorcing from my father during that time.
