திரெளபதி சமையலறையை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தபோது சரியாக மணி பத்தரை ஆகியது. ராஜலிங்கம் வழக்கம் போல் எட்டரைக்கெல்லாம் அலுவலகத்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று விட்டிருந்தான். சமையல் முடிந்த பிறகு சாப்பிட்டு விட்டே அவன் கிளம்பிச் சென்றிருப்பினும், அடுக்களை வேலைகள் என்பவை அத்துடன் ஒய்வதில்லை. அகம் அறிந்து வேலை செய்தால் அரை நாழி ஓய்வில்லை என்பது எவ்வளவு உண்மையான பழமொழி என்றுதான்.அப்போது அவளுக்கு நினைக்கத் தோன்றியது. சமையலை முடித்து விட்டேன் என்று மூன்றே சொற்களில் ஒரு பெண் சொல்லி முடித்து விடுகிறாள். வீட்டில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கும் அது ஒரே ஒரு வேலை என்றே படுகிறது. ஆனால், அதில் உள்ள சிரமங்கள் எத்தனை பேருக்குப் புரிகின்றன!
யாருக்குமே புரியவில்லை. திருமணம் ஆவதற்கு முன்னால் அவளும் ஓர் அலுவலகத்தில் வேலை செய்தாள். ராஜலிங்கம் வேலை பார்த்து வந்த அலுவலகத்தில் பிறிதொரு கிளையில்தான். இருவரும் காதலித்துத் திருமணம் புரிந்து கொண்டவர்கள் அல்லர். பெரியவர்கள் பார்த்து ஏற்பாடு செய்த திருமணம்தான்.
தான் காதலிக்கப்படாததிலும், ஒருவனைக் காதலிக்க வாய்க்காமற் போனதிலும் அவளுக்குக் கொஞ்சம் மனத்தாங்கல் உண்டுதான். அவ்வப்போது அதுகுறித்து அவள் நினைத்துப் பார்த்ததும் உண்டு. அந்த அலுவலகத்தில் அவன் பணிபுரியத் தொடங்கி ஆறே மாதங்களுக்குள் அவளது திருமணம் நிச்சயிக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது. இன்னும் கொஞ்ச காலம், அங்கே வேலை செய்திருப்பின், ஒருவேளை எவனாவது அவளுக்கு ஒரு சின்னத் தாளில் "ஐ லவ் யூ' என்று சிந்தால் சோப்பு விளம்பரப் பாணியில் கிறுக்கி அவளிடம் பயந்துகொண்டோ அல்லது ஓர் அசட்டுச் சிரிப்புச் சிரித்தபடியோ நீட்டி இருந்திருப்பான். அல்லது அவளுடன் பழகும் பெண்கள் ஒருத்தியுடன் வாய்மொழியாகத் தான் அவளை நேசிப்பதைச் சொல்லி
