Von Nietzsche stammt die Bemerkung, „all unser sogenanntes Bewusstsein“ sei womöglich nichts anderes als ein „mehr oder weniger phantastischer Commentar über einen ungewussten, vielleicht unwissbaren, aber gefühlten Text“1. Diesen Text hat er bekanntlich mit dem Leib bzw. dem Leiblichen zusammengebracht als der „großen Vernunft“, der gegenüber all das, was uns ins Bewusstsein tritt und damit anschaulich und sagbar wird, nur eine „kleine“, nachträgliche und notwendig mit ungeheuren Verkürzungen ein- hergehende Vernunft darstellt. „Groß“ soll die leibliche Vernunft sein nicht nur im Hinblick auf ihre Unausschreitbarkeit in quantitativer Hinsicht – „groß“ ist sie vor allem hinsichtlich ihrer Primordialität, ihrer Konkretheit und Intimität, die sie zu einem Anathema im strengen Sinne des Wortes werden lassen, das heißt zu etwas, das wir nur bedingt zum Gegenstand philosophischer und wissenschaftlicher Theorien machen können, weil wir es selbst sind. Die große Vernunft des Leibes fungiert als ein nicht dingfest zu machender Geburtsort des Bewusstseins und damit auch all dessen, was der Begriff der Subjektivität umfasst als einer notwendig leiblich verfassten ‚ersten Person‘, wie Nietzsches Zarathustra es den ‚Verächtern des Leibes‘ entgegenschleudert: „Leib bin ich ganz und gar, und nichts außerdem; und Seele ist nur ein Wort für ein Etwas am Leibe.“2 Danach wäre all das, was als Phänomen, als Bild, als Wort, ja selbst als Regung und Bewegung in Erschei- nung tritt – einschließlich der Verachtung der Leibesverächter selbst – ein „Etwas“ am Leibe.
