I was drowning, which didn’t make sense. I should have been asleep in a cheap Coffin apartment, but instead, I was wallowing in a cold void. Smooth, thick cream filled my nose and mouth. Cream? Dairy Cream? What the hell? I tried to draw in a breath, and my lungs burned. Oh no, no, no, said the broken little voice from somewhere beyond the darkness. No, no, no, no, no... Oh, will you give it a rest?
I tried to say, but all I could do was choke on heavy cream. Seriously, drowning in whipping cream? What the hell? Whose dream was this? The bottom of the dark space dropped away beneath me, and the cream funneled down and away from me, leaving me suspended by my ankles from an unseen ceiling by a rope I couldn’t feel. Who-
