      Introduction

      Carrying a weapon might seem like a bad idea—surely, a gun will only land you in more difficulty with police, or create panic in a public area. It’s the job of the police to protect the innocent. Or is it?

      Throughout the country, the response time of police is often inadequate for an immediate threat. In Detroit, response times can often be an hour long. And if someone were to commit a random act of shooting—walking into a building and opening fire without any argument or warning signs—how could police possibly react fast enough to save lives?

      Having a license to carry a concealed weapon will help in cases when police aren’t able to do their job. Although the license doesn’t give you the authority to a law enforcement officer, it will give you the legal power to prevent a criminal from escaping, or incapacitate him, when that criminal is presenting an immediate threat to someone’s life.

      A concealed carry license also permits you to carry a weapon in most places. Even if police were to stop you, they can’t take your gun away, and they usually won’t react negatively if you declare it on your body if they ask about weapons being present. In fact, the opposite is true: by providing your license to the officer, he knows that you’re trained and qualified to have the weapon, and are less of a threat than the average person.

      There are many pros and cons to carrying a concealed weapon, but their effectiveness in preventing murders has been well documented. Living without protection can be seen as naïve; although America is safe compared to some other countries, citizens are still at risk every day of random burglaries, muggings, attacks, hate crimes, and so on. There’s absolutely no reason to force yourself into the position of a victim when you have the power to defend yourself.

      Acquiring a permit to carry a concealed weapon can sometimes be arduous and drawn out, but can be accomplished my most everyone so long as the proper training has been completed, and the proper mindset achieved.

      But the actual act of carrying isn’t a simple one: the type of gun, type of holster, and methods to hide everything from sight must all be taken into account when trying to exercise your legal rights to self-defense.
