Foreword
Dear Reader,
I am very grateful that you have bought this book as I am sure you will benefit from it. This book was written for everyone who has ever felt that they are just not good enough.
Maybe we all suffer from this syndrome,
if not all the time, then at least when confronted with specific challenges. I know I do. When I have to do something I have never done before, or something that I failed at in the past, I sometimes find myself crippled by the thought that I might just not be good enough to succeed.
Over the years I have noticed that I am not the only one who struggles with these thoughts. We host personal empowerment workshops with horses. Such a large number of our workshop participants feel the same way that I thought I should share the technique I use to defuse these thoughts in my own mind, in case it may be of use to others too. So I decided to write this book. I can only help a small number of people during our workshops, with this book I hope to help a much larger number. The solutions suggested in this book are based on the sound, tried-and-tested principles that the horses and I share with participants during our workshops. This book will show you step-by-step how to increase your self-esteem and build (or rebuild) your self-confidence.
My name is Margaretha Montagu. I am an experienced medical doctor, a certified NLP practitioner, a certified counsellor, a medical hypnotherapist, an equine-assisted experiential learning coach and the author of several self-help articles, blog posts and books. I also publish a blog, called Empowering Women.
I am also just another woman who sometimes doubts her ability to cope with what life throws at her.
Could I invite you to subscribe to my blog’s mailing list? If you have already subscribed, thank you so much! If not, I would appreciate it enormously if you would. It will enable me to continue to support you in your quest to become your best self, once you have finished reading this book. The aim of my blog is to assist you to make the most of yourself and to provide you with the tools to do so. The blog has a distinctly French flavour, as I also share with you our life here in the south of France. You can subscribe here or here.
I would also hugely appreciate it if you would let me know if you find spelling mistakes in the text. English is not my first language, so despite my best intentions, mistakes do slip in.
It is my dearest wish that this book will make a difference in your life, for the better and in the long-term. The ultimate intent of this book is not just to empower you to feel that you ARE good enough, but to help you fulfil your true potential, live a life full of purpose and meaning and realise every aspiration and objective you ever had, beyond your wildest expectations.
Before you start reading, I just want to point out that all the downloads mentioned in the e-book version of this book are free and that the book contains NO affiliate links. This book is my gift to you, to enable you to finally start feeling that you ARE good enough.
All the best,
Margaretha

PS. If you like to listen to music while you read, this book comes with its own play list: Good Enough
Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness.

Dedication
I dedicate this book to all the workshop participants who have attended my workshops over the last 10 years. Thank you, each and every one of you, for teaching me my job. Thank you for your patience and forbearance when I was slow to understand and thank you for pointing me in the right direction when I lost my way. Thank you also for your continued support. Thank you for proving to me that I am on the right track by coming back for more year after year. I am more passionate now about this work than I was when I started 10 years ago (Can it really be that long ago? It feels like yesterday.) I now have the benefit of 10 years of experience to help me be even better at it. Presenting the workshops will always be my first love because I enjoy above all working with people face-to-face, but I hope that with this book I will also be of some use to those of you who cannot make it to my workshops.
I was thinking maybe this is another nut case book that I wouldn't like and very sceptical it would help me feel better about myself but the cover of the book drew me in. Wow! Guess what?! Loved it and YES, I AM GOOD ENOUGH! Thank you Margaretha! Lisa Pfeiffer
Thank you so much for your engaging and inspiring workshop; it was amazing how much I have learnt in this short space of time! I specifically appreciated your patience and great sense of humour. Lucy and I intend to keep in contact – our friendship is an added bonus I never imagined when I signed up. And thank you for welcoming us in your gorgeous and comfortable old house – I will be back! About the Author
Dr. Margaretha Montagu (MBChB, MRCGP, NLP cert, Med Hyp Dip and EAGALA cert level 2)
You only need to read this part if you wonder what qualifications and experience I have that would make this book a worthwhile read. Well, I am a medical doctor. I worked as a doctor, mostly with women, for 20 years. I retired early, partly because of a debilitation eye condition and partly because I became frustrated with the limitations of my profession. I always wanted to own a horse or two, so when I could no longer work as a doctor, I bought Belle de la Babinière, a stunning Friesian mare. I discovered that horses are like crisps, you can never have one only. So I bought Beau de la Babinière, a drop-dead-gorgeous Lusitano stallion. I retrained in equine-assisted experiential learning. I now host personal empowerment workshops to help women and the odd man to be more confident, to cope better with stress and to communicate more effectively.
As a medical doctor, I have always been interested in stress management. Over the years, I worked in a variety of specialities, including psychiatry, and I came to the conclusion that many diseases have their roots in my patients’ inability to handle stress. Instead of treating stress-related and stress-induced illnesses, I decided I would prefer to help my patients prevent stress from causing or worsening disease and ruining their health.
Somewhere along the line, I started writing. I discovered that being grateful for one’s blessings is a great stress management tool. So I started writing a gratitude diary. I enjoyed writing so much that I started a blog. I intended the blog to be a shop window showcasing our region, our horses, and our workshops. It quickly became much more. Browsing my blog is indeed a bit like visiting us virtually, but it is also a library filled with articles about confidence building, problem-solving, strengthening relationships, conflict resolving and much more. Eventually, I gathered some of my best blog posts into a book.
My books are called Self-Confidence made Simple: 16 Frenchwomen share their Self-esteem Secrets (you can read a preview of this book in the last chapter,) Mindfulness and Meditation Options - featuring equine-guided meditation and Secure Your promising, purposeful and prosperous Future. I also wrote a book for horse riders who have lost their horse riding confidence: Horse Riding Confidence Secrets. I am currently working on my next book. Subscribers to my blog’s mailing list will be notified when it is
