Tips and strategies for making delicious recipes using puff pastry.
What is Puff Pastry?
Puff pastry is a light and flaky pastry made of many layers. Before it is baked, the dough has alternating layers of dough and butter. During the baking process, the butter melts leaving gaps in the dough. The stream that develops as the dough bakes pushes up the dough causing it to puff up. The result is a very light and flaky dough that is not very sweet. The delicate flavors and crispy texture make puff pastry ideal for adding to many savory dishes. Although you can make your own puff pastry, it would be very time-consuming. Many people buy premade puff pastry that comes frozen in large sheets.
Tips and Strategies for Using Prepared Puff Pastry
Once you start using puff pastry to transform simple ingredients into special meals, you will want to start experimenting with your own recipes. Here are a few tips to remember as you start using puff pastry.
Unless you have a lot of time, use premade puff pastry. It comes in packages of 2 two large frozen sheets. You can cut them to the size you need and freeze the leftover pastry for later use.
The raw puff pastry dough is very delicate and will become hard to handle once it begins to warm up. Handle the dough as little as possible. The warmth from your hands will start to defrost the thin dough almost immediately. Remove the dough
