      Introduction

      In hounding, the sufferers cannot easily defend themselves; they lack the resources, the power and the recourse to address their aggressor. Rigby[1] notes that bullying does not occur when there is conflict between people of equal or similar power; in these situations, neither party has unrestrained power over the other.

      This is the critical distinction. The effects of being repeatedly attacked or threatened by a more powerful person or group are likely to differ from the effects of being attacked or threatened by someone of equal power: In the former case, one is apt to feel more helpless[2].

      The violent way of dealing with conflict is an ambiguous social phenomenon with varied etiology, which occurs in various forms and with great frequency in everyday life. It is a social act that leads to the modification of the
