What does it mean to become your own guru?
It means that to wake up, discover the truth and free your mind, you'll have to connect to the inherent wisdom inside of you. This can be done by making a choice and I’m going to help you.
True freedom comes from within. To gain access to this, you must be brave enough to face your conditioning, observe the world around you with an open mind and allow the deconstruction of the false sense of self to happen.
You will discover how to:
•Become aware of your thoughts
•Use your emotions wisely
•Free yourself from societal influences such as celebrity idolization and the media
•Understand the role of your ego
•Change the way you look at things
•Awaken once and for all
The answers you will find in the pages of this book may surprise you, but I’m telling you (or at least suggesting) that it’s time to choose awareness.
It’s a tough task, but you’d be wise to open your mind, let the gunk out, and allow genuine insight in. This requires Intelligence and people who can truly think for themselves, but YOU have the power to do it...
And the world NEEDS you to do it.
Free your mind (and become your own guru).
efforts.
It’s only been a few days since my most recent book, Streetwise Philosophy (a bullshit-free approach to spiritual maturity)
, was published.
As I sit and type these words (after I had called it a night), I’m waiting on the proof of the paperback version to be delivered, hopefully, so I can look at it, think it’s amazing, and take the final step in releasing it to the public.
You’d think one would be okay with taking a short break before going through the process of writing, creating, and publishing another book, only a week after their previous project was completed.
But apparently, not me.
This new book has been brewing for a while, now. It was just a matter of time until it was ready to be written.
Yes, I used a passive voice there. It happens.
I know we’re conditioned to believe that to relay a message correctly, you’d have to have graduated college with at least a B.A. in English.
But what if I told you that was hogwash?
I mean, why limit ourselves when it comes to personal expression?
There’s a beautiful balance in all things in life. In this case, the way we express ourselves would work better if we were clear, in touch with our true nature, and able to deliver thought-provoking material that someone else could understand, appreciate, and hopefully benefit from.
And things like spelling, clean sentence structure, and an intelligent sounding piece of writing is important.
But whether I color in the lines
by using perfect grammar is neither here nor there. I can relay my message clearly, even if I don’t always follow the rules of self-expression so kindly programmed into me through the traditional education system.
You may wonder where I’m going with all of this.
Well, I’ll tell you.
The thing is, we humans weren’t made to fit in a box. Nor were we meant to follow the strict and rigid rules.
I’m not saying discipline and respect aren’t necessary. There’s an art to being a well-thought out individual, who can run their own lives, make their own rules, and still be an asset to themselves, their surroundings, and the planet.
But…it requires having a free mind. Truly thinking for yourself.
That includes self-trust.
So when you rely on rules and try your best to stay in line with the way things should be,
then guess what, my friend?
You aren’t thinking for yourself. There’s also a good chance you’re preventing the creative process from doing its magic.
You are following the standards and ideals set by society.
And that’s what this book is about.
How to free your mind and become your own guru.
To do this, though, you have to choose awareness.
Gosh, I love the sound of those two words together.
Choose awareness.
I’d had a blog a few years ago, called I Choose Awareness.
It was awesome, but I let it go. I have a new blog now with another fabulous name.
See, I Choose Awareness
is a declaration to the unseen intelligence surrounding us that we’re open to expanding our limited perspectives in life. It’s telling the world:
"I know I don’t know it all.
I probably don’t know shit.
But I’m cool with that, because I’m a student. I’m here to learn, because I care about being real.
And since I’m open to, at least, hearing about the deep conditioning I’ve been raised with, then I am someone who is willing and capable of getting out of my own way long enough to receive the insight and guidance I can only gain by being flexible...
…by breaking free from the brainwashing. And by giving myself permission to become my truth.
Because I choose awareness."
Now, as I said, I no longer have that blog. But damn, I sure miss that name.
I wondered how I could use it again. Then I filed that thought away.
And then this book began to write itself.
In my head, that is.
The desire to get this new project started became so intense that I had to turn the computer back on after shutting it down for the night, because when the words want to come out, I can’t just stop them so I can curl into bed and finish the book I’m completely immersed in.
Nope.
When it’s time to speak, one must speak. It doesn’t matter whether it’s on paper, through some digital platform, or through using our voice.
Just f*cking speak.
So I am.
I’m telling you it’s time to choose awareness.
That’s a tough thing to do, though, when you’re married to your ideas of yourself.
There’s such a thing called cognitive dissonance.
It means two opposing ideas can’t hang out together in your head, because it’ll weird you out.
It’s too much like living in contradiction, and that’s unpleasant.
For some, it’s impossible.
But I’m telling you (or rather gently suggesting) you’d be wise to open your mind, let out the gunk, and allow in genuine insight.
You do that by making a choice to do so, and I will
