Description

Anxiety comes with life. But it doesn't have to dominate your life.

Do you ever have an overwhelming sense of dread? Bombarded with “what-if’s,” always on edge, preparing for something bad to happen? According to one research program, anxiety-related issues are the number one mental health problem among women and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse among men. Even students are feeling it. One psychologist reports that the average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s. Chances are, you or someone you know seriously struggles with anxiety.

New York Times bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado knows what it feels like to be overcome by the worries and fear of life, which is why he is dedicated to helping readers take back control of their minds and, as a result, their lives.

In this 64-page booklet based on one of Max’s bestselling books, Anxious for Nothing, you’ll find:

  • An 11-week practical plan to overcome anxiety
  • Weekly Scripture verses for meditation
  • Weekly prayers to reframe anxious thoughts

Stop letting anxiety rule the day and join Max on the journey to true freedom by the power of the Spirit.

Notes

Introduction

ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING

It’s a low-grade fear. An edginess, a dread. A cold wind that won’t stop howling.

It’s not so much a storm as the certainty that one is coming. Always . . . coming. Sunny days are just an interlude. You can’t relax. Can’t let your guard down. All peace is temporary, short-term.

It’s not the sight of a grizzly but the suspicion of one or two or ten. Behind every tree. Beyond every turn. Inevitable. It’s just a matter of time until the grizzly leaps out of the shadows, bares its fangs, and gobbles you up, along with your family, your friends, your bank account, your pets, and your country.

There’s trouble out there! So you don’t sleep well.

You don’t laugh often.

You don’t enjoy the sun.

You don’t whistle as you walk.

And when others do, you give them a look. That look. That are you naïve? look. You may even give them a word. Haven’t you read the news and heard the reports and seen the studies?

Airplanes fall out of the sky. Bull markets go bear. Terrorists terrorize. Good people turn bad. The other shoe will drop. Fine print will be found. Misfortune lurks out there; it’s just a matter of time.

Anxiety is a meteor shower of what-ifs. What if I don’t close the sale? What if we don’t get the bonus? What if we can’t afford braces for the kids? What if my kids have crooked teeth? What if crooked teeth keep them from having friends, a career, or a spouse? What if they end up homeless and hungry, holding a cardboard sign that reads: "My parents couldn’t afford braces for

Stressed with anxiety and fear, our society strains to the breaking point. Lucado illuminates the symptoms and causes. Beyond this, he arms readers with God’s principles and scriptures to counteract these insidious stressors. We can renew our hearts and minds.

So spot on. Excellent , extremely helpful and just concise enough to easily digest and appropriate.

All of his books speak to my soul. This one was no different but maybe particularly good. I want to read it again and go back and forth between the chapters and the review for each chapter at the end. I didn't do that the first time.

I love Lucado's writing; all of his books are easy to read. This one is very good. Did I take everything I read to heart? Not really since the coronavirus thing has hit. It's a book I may revisit in the future.

I purchased this book from Amazon to read with my sister's as a bible study group. All opinions are my own. ?????Anxious For Nothing by Max Lucado. With the chaos in the world today with technology, war, terrorism, and fast paced life we choose, it is hard to keep the anxiety away. It's there always close and very, very real for some people. Lucado gives us hope in finding a different way to perceive and keep anxiety at bay while gaining faith in powers greater than ourselves. As a nurse, I truly realize just how anxiety can grab a hold of you and make you struggle to even breathe, and while this book is not a cure all for an anxiety disorder it will give you a calm feeling and a hope to one day become more powerful than the emotion that is trying to control you. My sisters and I chose to do this as a group bible study but this can be read and the workbook done alone in your own space and pace. I enjoyed the group discussions we had and the way we can talk to one another about the book. It gives you an insight to other perceptions, so if you have a buddy that will read and work through the workbook with you it makes it that much more rewarding.
