About this ebook
High school is tough for many people. Friendship, homework, and love all occupy your brain. But for Evelyn, Gavin and Emma, they have an additional challenge; a mental illness. In this short play, the main three characters are double-casted, one actor portraying the character and the other portraying the voice inside their head. The voices say what the character really wants and needs to say, but no one hears them, as they are stuck inside the character's mind. Voices In My Head is a story of life, love, and learning to speak up as the characters navigate their way through struggles at home, school, and with the voice inside their head.

Voices In My Head Script
Act 1
Scene 1
A High School. Mid to late 2010s.
EVELYN is standing center stage. EVELYN II is sitting on a chair directly behind her. A single spotlight is cast on EVELYN as she looks up at the audience.
Evelyn: Lights up on me. I’m Evelyn. I’m average. Pretty happy. Pretty smart. You know. Pretty normal.
EVELYN motions for EVELYN II to come stand by her. The spotlight shifts to EVELYN II.
Evelyn II: Um when’s it my turn? I’m Evelyn II, the voice inside her head. I’m a little dark and (sarcastically) not at all sarcastic. What my dear, dear friend Evelyn is trying to say is that she’s pretty normal. Well, on the outside. On the inside, she’s filled with sadness and panic. Oh, and boys.
EVELYN gently flicks EVELYN II’S head; EVELYN II rolls her eyes and takes a step sideways.
Evelyn: You weren’t supposed to tell them that!
Evelyn II: I’m usually screaming to get out. But I’ve finally found a chance to speak up.
Evelyn: Lights up.
All the stage lights come on as the scene turns to a school classroom. EVELYN walks
