About this ebook
Sometimes what you're searching for finds you.
Rashani has a problem—too many terrific guys and too little time. She's trying to figure out if she has a real love connection with any of her teammates on the Ice Search and Rescue Team. Just when she started to narrow down the field, there's a new entry to consider.
Dr. Drake Stoker loves Trixie, the genetically-engineered polmund who was literally made for search and rescue situations in extreme cold weather. The Venlanten scientist never has trouble finding a date, but he may have found his true love on Ice. Now, he has to convince her that he's sticking around.
When Dr. Drake joins the Ice Search and Rescue team to find one of their own, he may have found just what he didn't know he needed.
Welcome to Ice, the flash-frozen third moon of the planet Zavaroff. Ice has been developed as a resort focused on Ice related activities—ice climbing, ice skiing, ice sled racing. The resort and village are completely enclosed for the comfort of Ice's citizens and visitors. Step through the Erdexi transport sphere and meet the people who live, work, and fall in love on Ice.
Searching for Love is the first book in Jo Carey's Ice Search and Rescue series. 64 pages.
Jo Carey
Jo Carey grew up in the Midwest but her curiosity and gypsy-spirit has kept her on the move. She's lived in eight US states and spent three years living in Ireland. She has always loved creature movies, so creatures and bugs often show up in her books. Jo, a former information security compliance guru, writes fast-paced, character-driven stories in a variety of genres from medical thrillers to space operas and cozy mysteries. Her novels are filled with humor, romance, and sometimes creatures or aliens, or maybe even all of the above. She often builds her stories around a strong female lead character surrounded by plenty of hunky male heroes. Jo's been under fire on a golf course and climbed out the roof of an elevator in the Netherlands. Life hasn't been boring. Now residing in Texas, setting often plays a huge role in her stories. Jo was intrigued by the League of Planetary Systems, a world her husband, Frank, created for his science fiction books, and she now writes mysteries and other types of tales sets in that world. Jo was bitten by a cat, a fire ant, and a snake, before succumbing to the bite of the writing bug.

Searching for Love - Jo Carey
CHAPTER ONE
You look beautiful tonight,
Koltyn said, draping a protective arm around Rashani's shoulders as they walked to the transport tube after enjoying a nice meal in one of the resort's restaurants. His tail slipped around her waist, pulling her tight against him. Koltyn was the first elf she ever dated, and she found herself of two minds about his tail. He used it like a third hand at times which was both good and bad. Right now, it felt safe and protective, but she wanted to slow things down between them. The tail was like another hand to keep track of. As they waited for the v-lift, he pulled her close and bent to kiss her. Just as his lips brushed hers, she felt a warm hand on her shoulder.
Hi, Rashani, I thought that was you,
Ralston Cortez said. Hi, Koltyn.
Rashani had been out with Ralston a few nights earlier. They all stood in an uncomfortable little knot outside the v-lift.
Did you need something, Ralston?
she asked. He gave her a look that could melt the ice moon they were on.
Just wanted to say hi. Did you two have fun?
We were,
Koltyn said. Koltyn was the leader of Ice Search and Rescue. Rashani and Ralston were both part of the team, so on that level, Koltyn was their boss. Rashani knew she needed to take control of the situation before the male egos made things worse.
We had a lovely dinner. We're just heading home,
she said. What have you been up to tonight?
she asked Ralston.
A late night in the office going over the plans for the ski runs. I'm heading out in a couple of days to flag the trails for the construction crew. I'd like to see you again before I leave. Are you free for dinner tomorrow night?
Rashani just wanted the awkward situation to end. Rather than draw things out any longer with excuses or explanations. She said, Call me tomorrow.
As soon as the transport car arrived, Koltyn led her to a seat for two, making sure he was on the outside. Ralston walked past them and gave her a wink she was sure didn't go unnoticed by her date.
Rashani expected to have little or no social life when she moved to Ice. That concern nearly caused her to take a pass on the opportunity. Now, her problem was too much social life or, at least, too many interested interesting men.

Hi, Amanda. How are you?
Rashani asked, as she stepped aside to allow her friend to walk into her apartment.
I'm good. Really good. I am so up for a girl's night,
Amanda said. Thank you for thinking of it. It's so nice to have another woman to talk to about guys and all of that... Sorry, I'm talking too much.
Rashani laughed. It's OK, Amanda.
As a med tech, Rashani treated enough Canurans to understand that they tended to talk in run-on sentences. She'd been surprised to find that Leo Murchison, Ice's owner/developer, had a Canuran assistant. Rashani enjoyed Amanda's enthusiasm and was learning to not feel badly when she interrupted one of Amanda's talking streams. I really thought when I took this job that I wouldn't have much of a social life. I didn't think there would be so many awesome men here.
It was kind of the opposite for me. My life was crazy busy with work until Leo met Jewl. Now, I usually leave the office at a reasonable hour, and we seldom travel. I'm trying to adjust to a quieter life, but you're right. The guys here are amazing. I wonder why that is. Well, I guess we should just...
Funny how things work out sometimes,
Rashani said.
While they drank wine and ate takeout food, they talked about their most recent dates and wondered at the fact that so many amazingly hot guys called the frozen moon home. I went out with Koltyn Kincaid last night,
Rashani said.
How was it? He's quite handsome. I've never dated an elf. Is the tail weird?
He's great.
What about Ralston? He's so hot. I've seen a lot of pictures of him on the InterWeb when he was on the ski racing circuit. I wonder why he came to...
Ralston was also great. He wanted to go out tonight, but I needed a break and some girl time. What about Mack?
Mack is terrific. I really like him, but then I see Ralston or Koltyn or Trayce Pulley, and I think I might like to go out with any of them,
Amanda said.
Or maybe all of them, right?
Rashani asked.
Right. I feel like I need to figure out if I have a real connection with any of them, but the only way to do that is to date all of them.
She laughed.
Gods help us if any more gorgeous eligible guys move to Ice. I know they'll be hiring more people for the vineyard.
They watched a romantic comedy and couldn't help comparing the men in the vid to the single men on Ice. It was a fun night. Amanda had been wanting to ask Rashani a question all evening, but she hadn't found the right time to bring it up. It had been a long time since Amanda had a girlfriend, and she was enjoying having another female to hang
