    FOREWORD

Tim King has prepared a charming family book that tells stories of how God is working through his children. In each of the fifty-two stories, he reflects on how the Lord was working in his children and through his wife and his ministry.

These stories are not sensational like some nursery rhymes or tell of a missionary family being delivered from persecution or attacks. These stories reflect King’s everyday life with his family – like my children when I was much younger, or your children. King describes incidents so normal, that if they happen to your children you may miss the life-long impact that a simple conversation can have in the development of your children.

And yet, every normal incident reflects the life changing power of God, working in ordinary ways, to make a lasting influence on children. As you read each story, study carefully the attached Bible verse. It contains deep truth. These are the truths that you must communicate to your children.

These stories remind me of a lagoon in Hawaii where my family and I visited on a boat trip. The bottom appears to be only a few feet down, the guide explained. Then he challenged us, But it is over 100 feet deep . . . dive in and you will not hit the bottom. Isn’t that true of God’s principles? They seem so simple— on the surface—yet they represent the depth of an enteral God dealing with us.

So, my advice is to dive in and enjoy these stories. And when you and your children do, begin applying these truths and you will find their meanings are as limitless as the promises of God.

    INTRODUCTION

I began this book many years prior to its completion, but for many reasons, including completing a doctoral degree and probably some other priorities as well, this book took many years to finish. Upon completing my doctoral program in clinical counseling--some would say that a Ph.D. program is the pinnacle of higher learning--the thought occurred to me that some of the greatest lessons I have ever learned came straight from the mouths of babes, namely my own children. Have you ever heard that all you ever need to know you could learn in kindergarten? There’s certainly a whole lot of truth to that statement.

This book, however, is suggesting that you can begin to learn from children even before kindergarten and continue to learn from them throughout their life spans as well. As a matter of fact, children can teach you from their birth to kindergarten and beyond if you’re listening to the still, small voice of their Creator. Being a parent is no doubt one of the greatest blessings and toughest jobs ever given to humanity. I can remember when my wife and I decided to start our family after being married for just a few years. We would be driving down the road and tell our children (who did not exist yet) to be quiet in the back seat of the car. We would tell our son to stop picking on his sister. We would tell them to use their inside voices. I’m sure the people in the cars beside us and behind us were wondering how this hallucinating couple got their driver’s licenses. Talk about the power of the spoken word! We later would call Kyler, McKala,
