This book is a standalone, complete story. No Cliff hangers. HEA. Multiple POV.
The Poison Series
The series is set around the Exclusive BDSM Club, Poison. With the Doms being Law Enforcement, Military, and Agents, and subs having a habit of getting themselves in deep trouble, there is never a dull moment.
Oh, and just like my other books, there is, Kinky, Hot…well… you know.
No Good Deed goes unpunished. And Carrie was learning that the hard way.
Carrie started with good intentions and now her life was in the hands of a man who called her a sub. Who the hell did he think he was? She wasn’t a sub. Was she?
Landon didn’t plan for this to happen, didn’t plan on lusting after a woman he was supposed to be protecting. Carrie is a sweet little sub and all he wants is to have her on her knees. But, can he keep her alive long enough to make his move?
Although it is a standalone, it is Book Three of the Poison Series. Each book within that series is a standalone, with no cliffhangers and can be read in any order. But, it is recommended that you read from ‘One’ onwards as characters in early books are mentioned in later books, and knowing their backstories will add to your reading experience and enjoyment.
Due to the content, this book is intended for adults 18 years and older.
SERIES
Carrie traced her finger over the words carved into the table top, ‘Kill Me’. She wondered; How the hell did someone get something in here sharp enough to carve into a wood table? She looked around the room, it was depressing. Yeah, ‘Kill Me’ sounded about right.
She had discovered what she thinks is her boss breaking the law. So, she walked into the DEA offices to report it. And now, she was sitting in this room waiting to be interviewed. Dammit, what had she done? She wanted to do the right thing. But she had to admit, this was scary. She had thought she would just leave the details at the front desk and go home. But instead, they had taken her through the offices and into this little room telling her someone would speak to her soon. She had been in here awhile and when she tried the door handle she had found it to be locked. Why had they locked her in here? She wasn’t a criminal.
You made a serious mistake coming here…
Yeah, she was beginning to think that she had. ‘See something, Say something’, but maybe this had not been the smartest choice. She ran her hand through her long blonde hair, tugging out the tangles. If her friends or family knew she was here they would laugh at her. People had always made clear they thought she was weak. Always made fun of her for being awkward and said she was too nice. She sighed. This was such a bad idea.
Suddenly the door handle rattled, and the door swung open with a whoosh. In stepped the biggest man she had ever seen. He was at least 6’4 maybe more, but he wasn’t just tall, he was wide. He had massive shoulders, arms, and chest that tapered down to his waist. He wore a tight black t-shirt over blue jeans and had a gold badge hanging around his neck. Her eyes shot to his. He had beautiful eyes, a smoky green, set in a face that was all hard masculine lines. He ran his hand through his raven black hair and frowned down at her. Miss Winters?
She blinked and slid her eyes away from his intense gaze. His voice was deep and seemed to rumble out of his chest. She managed to find her voice and squeak out. Yes, that’s me.
He sat down across the table from her, the metal chair groaning as he sat his bulk into it. I’m Agent Kane. I was told you have some information for us on possible illegal activities?
Uh, yes. I work for Marland Industries and I think he may be doing something wrong.
He narrowed his eyes, openly assessing her. You think? What leads you to believe the company is doing something illegal?
She laid out what she had found. Her boss, Jack Marland, had been juggling his books. She had found some irregularities and once she looked into it, those irregularities threw up a lot of red flags. So, as she looked deeper, she traced the account numbers to where he was sending to and transferring money from. When she did that, she got a name, a quick google search brought up who he was. He was the son of the head of the Carlayna Cartel. That cartel that was the largest and most dangerous in Mexico and across South America. With a bit more digging she traced shipments to the USA from Mexico that had not been stamped properly by customs. Then, after bouncing through the names on the accounts, it appeared that when some shipments came in, a customs agent was sent money. In her mind, it looked like he was being bribed by Jack to let his shipments through unchecked.
Agent Kane leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. His massive biceps made the edge of his t-shirt sleeves roll up. I see. And why did you decide to come to the DEA to report this instead of the local police department?
She took a deep breath. She hoped this wouldn’t insult him. Well, I think maybe some of the local police, uh, they might not be good people. They know Jack, and they are really close.
Agent Kane just looked at her. His intense stare made her squirm in her seat and she blurted out. "Plus, I mean, you are the DEA. And this is drugs, I think. And you guys do drugs… I mean, you don’t do drugs, but, ah…..." She trailed off and felt heat creep up her neck and across her cheeks. Well, that was embarrassing.
A grin spread across his face. He had straight white teeth, framed by full lips. He seemed to be fighting not to laugh and coughed into his fist. Correct. We do handle drug-related crimes. And no, we don’t do illegal drugs. That would kind of defeat our purpose.
She nodded. Right. Um actually, I have been here awhile and; Is it OK if I go outside and have a smoke?
He raised an eyebrow. Sure, follow me.
He stood up and she followed, noting that he towered over her 5’5 height. They walked through a large open office area with cubicle dividers. There were men and woman seated at their desks typing on computers and speaking on the phone. The place was hushed, but with an undercurrent of a steady urgency.
They walked into a short hallway and then to a large door. He inputted a code and pushed it open. They stepped through into what looked like a secure parking lot set just below ground level. There was a table and chairs and a large wooden picnic table set up to the right of the door. She walked over and sat on the picnic table top, her feet on the seat. Pulling out her packet of smokes, she got out a cigarette and lit it.
He came over and sat beside her. Can I nab one of those off you?
She turned to him, surprised. Really?
He let out a deep chuckle. Yeah, why?
She looked him up and down. Ah, well it kinda looks like you live in the gym. So, working out and smoking doesn’t seem to mix.
He threw his head back and barked out a laugh. They don’t. But, I’m human, so I don’t always do things that make sense. Or that are good for me.
She grinned at him as she handed him a cigarette and her lighter. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad. He was not only hot, but he seemed like a nice guy. Yeah, me too sometimes. I normally don’t smoke, but… well…
He lit the cigarette and blew out a long stream of smoke. Yeah, I understand. Stress does that to a person. So, how long have you been working for Marland?
Nearly a year. I wish I had known, I never would have even started the job.
He nodded. Well, some of the evillest people in the world wear very nice respectable masks. You can’t blame yourself for not knowing.
It was hard to keep her mind on what he was saying when he was sitting only a few inches from her. She could feel his body heat and smell his cologne. It was sandalwood and something masculine and rich. And his deep voice seemed to weave its way around her and go straight to her pussy. Damn, she was sitting here having fantasies about this man when she should be focused on the fact that she worked for a criminal. Possibly a dangerous one.
She cleared her throat. So, what happens now?
He turned his head and his eyes took on an intense look. For now, we talk. I would like to know more about what’s happening over there. Once we get all the facts, then we can look at the next steps we need to take.
Next Steps? Like, arrest him?
That would be the ultimate goal. But, we need to gather solid evidence before we can arrest him. We need that in order to ensure we get a conviction in court.
She nodded, that made sense. She stubbed her cigarette out and stood up, he followed her.
Ready to talk some more?
He was standing beside her, so she had to crane head back to look up him. Sure. Then I guess I need to start looking for a new job.
He frowned and scrubbed his hand over his face. Yeah, let’s talk about that later.
He ushered her back inside the building and she started to head back towards the room she was in before. But he reached out and took her elbow in his hand and gently guided her into an office. She saw ‘Agent Kane’ on the nameplate. He sat her down in a chair in front of a large desk, asking. Do you want something to drink?
Yes, please. Coffee if you have it.
He grinned. Oh, around here we live on coffee. Do you want milk, sugar?
Yes, to both please.
He nodded. Be right back.
She looked around the office. There were some photos on a table behind the desk, it looked like a younger Agent Kane. But, he was dressed in a military uniform, holding a large rifle. He walked back in and set a mug of coffee in front of her, then nodded towards the photos. Yeah, that’s me. I used to be a Marine Recon Sniper.
Feeling a lot more confident in this office than she did in the other cold room, she smiled. So, Agent Kane…
He sat down in the chair beside her. You can call me, Landon.
"Oh, uh, you can call me, Carrie. So, what else do you need
