About this ebook

Burned by her run-around ex-husband Johnnie Ricco, Caterina DeLuca took the skills she mastered during marriage and opened her own private eye agency. Now she's a second-story woman, armed with a camera, ready to print 8×10 glossies for use in divorce court.

The men in her big, whacko family, all Chicago cops—one a crook—aren't sure what to make of Cat's career choice. But hey, it's serve and protect!

Then one Rita Polansky retains Cat. Rita's liar-liar husband is the mysterious, but seriously hot, Chance Savino. Cat is hot on his heels when an exploding building hurls her out of her stilettos and into the hospital. The FBI claims Chance was killed in the fireworks, but concussed Cat remembers a different scenario.

She escapes the hospital to meet with her client. But when Rita doesn't show, Cat breaks into her home to find Rita with a knife in her chest and two clues at the murder scene: a clutch of candy wrappers and Chance Savino, rummaging through Rita's drawers.

One surprise after another piles up. As no one else sights Savino, everyone around Cat thinks she's crazy. Everyone except a determined killer who has put her on his "kill" list.

In Larsen’s mystery novel, private investigator Cat DeLuca knows just how to nail a cheating husband. After all, Chance Savino, her ex, taught her all about deceit and untrustworthiness. But when he is supposedly killed during an explosion, no one believes Cat when she insists he’s alive and up to his tricks again. Then when Rita Savino is found dead, threats soon follow and Cat finds herself dodging hit men, the FBI, cops, and even the mob. To survive this, Cat will need to turn to her family and her new partner to find the truth before someone else turns up dead.A great installment to the A Cat DeLuca Mystery series.

There were places where I found the writing to be a bit scattered and hard to follow. The charactors are great and easy to identify with. There were times I laughed out loud at Cat and her gangs high jinx.My favorite charactor would have to be Mama DeLuca with her quick wit and undying love for her family. Anyone coming from an Italian family can relate to Cat's family and laugh along at her frustration.I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to any readers who like Janet Evanovich and Lisa Lutz. I gave Liar, Liar 3/5.

I had planned on reading a great mystery set in Chicago, but the sisters Larsen presented another version of Stephanie Plum. Cat DeLuca jumps in your face as a private investigator with tons of relatives in the Chicago Police Department, and an Italian mother that out cooks Julia Child. Of course, a couple of hunky men rotate around the gorgeous Cat. Cat has a beagle, instead of a hamster, and no 'ho as her sidekick, just a crazed woman with a stun gun. The constant mention of food forced me to down a sharing bag of M & M peanuts, and the misery is staring. Cars feature big in this tale, and the cars bear feminine names: Dorothy and Olivia. The story served as my Illinois state reading, and the setting could have been anywhere as nothing hinted of Illinois.

I enjoyed the breezy, humor-tinged style, but occasionally the well crafted prose was repetitious. Certain words or turns of phrase stood out due to a few too many uses. I also have a little trouble with a humorous voice imposed on life and death situations. One moment the MC is sick to her stomach after witnessing a killing, but is able to crack a joke a few minutes later.

I also felt the plot strayed into a secondary plot for too long. After a few chapters of the subplot, I suspected it would somehow tie into the main plot, but was resolved separately with no affect on the main plot.

A quality detective mystery, just not going on my top ten list this year.

Cat DeLuca is a private eye who gets the evidence on cheating spouses. While working a case she follows the subject into a building that blows up and puts her in the hospital with a concussion. She then learns her client was a reporter who was actually chasing after a jewel thief. When Cat goes to her apartment she find her dead and the supposedly dead thief searching her bedroom. Lots of of crazy hijinks, food and family interference in this Stephanie Plum wanna be.
