Greta Tintin And Secret of The Rothschild's Giraffe - Yernar Alippek

    Chapter 1

Even something beloved can fall into ruin. Something cherished can easily become forgotten. And by the time one realizes the fault, the damage is already done. The kingdom of Norrland experienced great sorrow. But some still wished to see their beautiful land flourish at any cost.

Walking through the castle halls, Greta’s eyes drifted to the framed paintings. Each showcased the beautiful landscapes of Norrland. She saw thick forests teeming with life, endless flowing rivers, and rolling mountains that towered over the horizon. And as Greta continued further on, she began to witness sights beyond the images she was used to beholding. At the image of cascading sands, the young elf halted. She had never witnessed a world under such immense heat and sunlight. But the land she saw was far from barren. Thin-stumped trees with branches that twisted like cobwebs sprouted up from dried patches of grass. Shallow oasis pools gave birth to sprouting greenery. And surrounding those flourishing areas were creatures beyond anything Greta had seen in her life.

She spotted horses that were stripped with black-and-white patterns. Big cats with flowing manes and tusked beasts with thick grey skin prowled through the brush. But what caught Greta’s eye most was a creature with a neck that rivaled the tallest tree in the savannah.

Greta was so mesmerized that she didn’t notice the guard that stood behind her, tapping his foot. Greta was startled by the sound. She turned and smiled at the man who beckoned her towards the throne room. It was still a mystery to her as to why the king wished to speak with her. But she knew she had many ideas to tell him herself.

Her body still ached from the battle with the Iron King. But resting in the castle’s hospital ward had done her well. The best mages in Norrland were there to tend and coddle her sore bones and joints. But no matter how much they healed her flesh, there was one wound that would never heal. Greta could no longer use magic.

Knowing it was futile, she attempted to conjure water in a glass while she sat in her cot. Just as she learned in class, she closed her eyes and she imagined the element in her mind. She pushed those thoughts outward, but nothing manifested in her fingers. It was a hard truth to swallow that she would forever be without magic, but she knew it was necessary; it was the only way that she was able to stop the Iron King.

Fife yawned and perked up on her shoulder. Her blackbird companion had been with her through thick and thin. Greta wished for him, too, to rest and recover, but he insisted on joining her. After all, she had saved him the day that she found him, and he wanted to be able to return that favor.

Between Greta’s lack of magic and Fife’s broken wing, they were far from working condition. And while
