BEIJING, CHINA - FORBIDDEN CITY

3 MONTHS EARLIER (1720)

It is nighttime. Inside the Imperial Palace, a man with long thin pointed moustache, long black stringy hair with a receding ball spot, stealthily walks down the hallway with a little bird perched on his forearm; this is Master Fu Lai, Imperial Eunuch to the emperor. His thin cold Asian eyes focused on his goal - the emperor’s bedroom.

You will make a perfect gift for the emperor little one, says Master Fu La, rubbing his long nails through the bird’s feathers.

Suddenly, Master Fu La hears the emperor and a woman’s voice. He quietly enters the porch area, peaks through the porch’s curtains, and sees the emperor.

With his back facing the porch, Emperor Poe’s hairstyle is Manchu queue/half-shaved head, long black ponytail, and he is wearing a red robe with a large dragon embroidered seal on the back. The emperor steps to the side revealing Guanyin, a beautiful goddess woman adorned in a pink crown hair veil and white robe trimmed in a thin yellow tap-estry. Small white puffs of smoke magically swirl around her waist.

Master Fu Lai’s eyes widen, and he swallows deep and hard.

My God, she’s, she’s beautiful, whispers Master Fu Lai to himself.

Inside the bedroom, Guanyin hands Emperor Poe a large black wooden tablet.

This book will be a symbol of our love for each other, says Guanyin.

Emperor Poe leads Guanyin over to his bed. Both undresses, get into his bed, caress each other’s body and make love.

Master Fu Lai face tightens as he watches them. In his jealous anger, his fist tightens, and he squeezes the helpless bird to death; blood drips from his long sharp nails.

PRESENT DAY (1723)

It is daytime outside, but dark inside the Imperial Hallways. Yung Wu, 15 years old, long black hair, green eyes, garbed in a shiny yellow mandarin shirt, sees Emperor Poe’s vault door open and hears a strange voice coming from inside.

Yung Wu, Yung Wu, your hand is the key, open the Book of Peace and then you will see, tempts the eerie voice.

Yung Wu cautiously walks inside the vault. Candles illuminate hundreds of stone scrolls that line the walls. The young servant boy stops and looks around. He sees a glowing light coming from a small pile of scrolls on a stone table. Yung Wu walks over to the stone table and stares down at the source of the glowing light -- a large black wooden tablet.

He reads the golden inscribed title and rubs his fingers on the raised letters.

The Ars Notoria, whispers Young Wu.

Suddenly, Yung Wu hears footsteps. Startled, the frightened boy quickly turns and accidently places his hand on the tablet’s wax seal. Yung Wu does not see the shimmering glow around the edges of his hand. Yung Wu sees Master Fu La enter the room, and he runs out pass the Imperial Eunuch.

Yung Wu! Yung Wu! yells Master Fu Lai.

Yung Wu is gone. Master Fu Lai sees the Ars Notoria’s seal slowly open, and a wicked smile appears on the Imperial Eunuch’s face. Master Fu
