    Chapter Four

    Lian slowly woke and stirred. Every inch of his body was sore. Opening his eyes, he stared at the ceiling of this home. The blurry image took a few moments to stabilize. Memories hit him in sporadic flashes and he bolted up to a sitting position.

    Lana! Her name ripped from his chest. There was no need to check—he knew she was gone.

    Anger filled him and he peered around his location, his fingers gliding through the tacky puddle of blood. He rubbed his chest, smearing the red on his shirt. The wound had closed and he pushed to his feet.

    After swiping another shirt and ripping the one he wore off, he swung to the door and headed to the front where he paused. He crouched by some more droplets and scowled. Blood. Touching it, he glanced at his arms—to confirm what he already knew—and found his glyphs had appeared. A feral growl emerged from the depths of his chest.

    Lana’s blood.

    They would all die. He made his way outside and turned his hands, palms up. Lightning jerked down from the sky and pelted near him. Lian didn’t flinch. His skin tingled as he accepted the energy offered as it filled the air.

    He allowed his eyes to close and took to the sky. Lian didn’t use his powers often, aside from his main purpose of dealing death and destruction. Protecting. This was different. Those fools had taken his woman. And he wanted her back. Traveling this way was much faster than using a vehicle in which he would have to follow human law.

    The clouds hummed as he soared through them. If anyone looked up they’d see angry, roiling clouds with a dragon-shaped head, which appeared at times in different locations of the storm. His other form was dragon, yet as another layer of protection for himself, he projected a shimmer amongst the storm. Most would think it lightning. He followed the faint trail she’d left, positive those who had her were
