Description
A seed of hope in a world of hate...
War rages as land runs out. Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and other races fight for control of the limited space they have. When a land mass suddenly appears out of nowhere, people flock to it, only to be caught up in its mysteries.
Kaia, one of the last living members of the Treek race, heads to the new land to find others like herself and escape the war that surrounds her. With conflict at her back, and untamed wilderness ahead, she and the companions she makes discover the truths of the new land and themselves.
---
Kaia journeys with her ragtag group of misfits to the strange tower she had seen the previous day. With danger around every corner, will they find clues to help them find their missing people, or will they let their differences divide them?

Chapter 1
The four of us traveled through the forest. We were an awkward sight: a Treek, a Gnome, a half-breed, and a Beastfolk hiding as a Saurian. Once we were out of range of the colony, the Beastfolk dropped her Saurian disguise, transforming back to her bobcat-like figure.
So what should we call you?
Zef asked.
Don’t call me anything,
she said. She kept her eyes forward as she walked.
Zef stepped aside to walk next to her. The height difference between the Gnome and Beastfolk was astonishing. If something goes wrong out here, if trouble is coming your way, we’re going to need a way to get your attention,
Zef said. He was forced to look up.
Tigala,
she said simply.
Well, it’s nice to meet you, Tigala. My name is Zef, and that is Lolan and Kaia,
Zef said.
Tigala kept walking as if she hadn’t heard Zef. Bringing her along was starting to feel more and more like a terrible idea.
Soon we reached the stream, where I lead the group to the cliff as I kept an eye out for ogres. The only evidence left of our scuffle was blood scattered on the stone cliff, patches of unearthed dirt, and the lingering remains of my dead vines.
From the cliffside, I pointed to the forest below. The group looked down and saw the same gray shape poking out from the trees.
Woah. I thought this place was uninhabited,
said Lolan.
That’s what I heard too,
I said.
Zef stared, amazed.
Tigala spoke. Are we gonna go inside or just stare at it?
With that she started down the cliff, searching for a path in the rock face. We found a spot where the cliff sloped into the forest below and continued to the mysterious building.
We went in silence, in fear of provoking Tigala further. Even in a place of sanctuary, she was willing to attack me because I was a Treek. I was pretty sure it wouldn’t take much for her to do it again.
Instead, I walked a distance away from the group, letting Zef take the lead. With the structure still far off, Chipry and I stopped at the occasional bush to eat. After each stop he would flutter away, his songs echoing through the trees.
At one of our berry bush stops, I found a feather near the base of the bush, tucked underneath the branches. Chipry was still scouting ahead, so this couldn’t have been from him. Could there be others like him on this island? I thought. I had never seen another bird like him before, so it was unlikely. Still, I had to wonder.
Over here,
yelled Zef, who was standing in a clearing at the base of a hill. We were close.
I reached him about the same time Tigala and Lolan did. He was staring at a set of stone slabs; a staircase climbed up the steep hill.
"Are you trying to tell the whole forest we’re here?" Tigala said, her voice nearing a roar.
Nope. Only the three of you could hear that,
said Zef. He smiled as a puff of purple sparks flew from his hands. He had used magic to do it.
Tigala gritted her teeth. Her body grew tense, only relaxing once the sparks dissipated. She growled, but nothing came of it. Tigala stomped up the set of stone slabs toward the building. We followed.
It was a round watchtower-like structure made entirely of stone, but it was built in a way that I had never seen before. Smooth stone formed the walls, reaching from its base to its top, about 30 feet off the ground. The stone was old, the rock overtaken by nature with green moss and vines. Parts of the stone wall had crumbled outward, giving the tower an awkward shape, as if a bite had been taken out of it. That side of the wall
