EVER since I caught the hunting bug in my mid-teens, I made sure there was at least one lever action stacked in the safe alongside the more modern bolt guns. Now, close to fifty years later, I note only one of my dozen or so rifles is a bolt action – all others present that familiar lever action profile.
Lever actions are slim, allowing more rifles to be stored in a confined space. Most carry and balance well in the hand, strap readily to a pack, and come in a myriad of calibers suited for small game up to the largest. The rifles offer a fast follow up shot, plus that romantic silhouette and combination of walnut and blued steel add to their appeal.
