About the author

Martha is a chef and a cookbook author. She has had a love of all things culinary since she was old enough to help in the kitchen, and hasn’t wanted to leave the kitchen since. She was born and raised in Illinois, and grew up on a farm, where she acquired her love for fresh, delicious foods. She learned many of her culinary abilities from her mother; most importantly, the need to cook with fresh, homegrown ingredients if at all possible, and how to create an amazing recipe that everyone wants. If anything, the process has become way easier as the years went by as we saw the addition of varieties such as cake doughnuts that are simply popped in the oven after being formed, yeast-less doughnuts that are way more beginner friendly and can be whipped up in minutes, and so many more exciting changes along with the traditional doughnuts are make learning to make them even more simple than before.

Krispy Kreme Copies

This recipe is extremely similar to the Krispy Kreme recipe that is well known as one of the best doughnuts you can buy. Serve them warm or reheat in the microwave for 5 to 10 seconds.

Overall Time: 1 hr.


2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast

¼ cup of granulated sugar

½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

¼ cup of evaporated milk, warmed to 110º F.

½ teaspoon of salt

¼ cup of vegetable shortening (room temperature)

1 large egg

1 egg yolk

2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)

3 to 4 cups of vegetable shortening (for frying)

For the Glaze:

2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted

1 1/3 cups of powdered sugar

Salt, to taste

2 tablespoons of evaporated milk

½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

3 to 4 teaspoons of hot water

½ cup of warm water (110º F)


1. Use a mixer to combine the yeast, warm water, and ½ teaspoon of sugar. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes.

2. Add the evaporated milk, the rest of the sugar, salt, egg ingredients, vanilla, and ¼ cup of shortening.

3. Add half of the flour and use the whisk attachment to blend until it is smooth.

4. Switch to the hook attachment and add the remaining flour. Kneed on low until the mixture is smooth. This usually takes 4 to 5 minutes. Add additional flour if needed.

5. Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl. Place a sheet of plastic wrap tightly over the bowl and allow to rise for about an hour and a half so that the dough can dough in size.
