Introduction to Automobile Engineering

A
n automobile is a self propelled ground vehicle which is actually driven by an internal combustion engine and used for the transportation of goods and passengers from a place to another. The vehicles can move in any direction on the road or off the road.
How automobile works
An automobile works on starting its engine. The starting of engine may be of two types:
In four or more wheelers, engine is started by an ignition switch.
In two wheelers, engine is started by an ignition switch or a kick.
Cranking of the engine
Cranking of the engine initiates the movement of piston within the cylinder which makes a vacuum inside the cylinder. The surrounding air rushes to fill into this vacuum and it passes through an air cleaner and carburetor. Carburetor works to convert the liquid fuel into vapours and then it mixes up with the air.
