About this ebook

Sapphire
Every shifter longs to find their fated mate. It's one of the greatest blessings the Goddess can ever give to a shifter. But sometimes even the Goddess can get it wrong. When your mate is your childhood bully, there must be a mistake.

Marc
I started to believe I would never find my fated mate and had already accepted it as fact. Then I found her. But the woman I want to claim is a grown-up version of a girl I tortured when we were children. I wish I could go back and change things but the past is set in stone. Is there any way for me to make this right?

Chapter One

Sapphire

I don’t want to go back there. I stubbornly glare at my brother.

When I was fifteen years old, my father and the then alpha of the Katu pack had a falling out. Well, that’s what my mom used to call it. My brother Ezra said it was more like nuclear fallout.

I’m not sure what the falling out was about, but I do know that my father packed us up in the middle of the night and moved us away. Moved is a speculative word, more like ran. He didn’t know where we were headed, if another pack would take us in, or if we even wanted to be taken in. We ended up traveling for five years, never staying in one place for too long.

Ezra hated it, having to leave his home at eighteen. All his friends and everything he had ever known. Me? I was relieved, happy even. I could finally get away from Marc. Marc bullied me constantly, from pre-school to the afternoon we left. Mom used to say it was his way of showing he liked me, but I never believed her. The ugly, hurtful things he would say, punching me and pushing me down. I don’t think he liked me at all. But that’s all in the past.

Last week, we buried our parents. Dad died in his sleep from an aneurysm and Mom followed soon after from a broken heart. I miss them both terribly, but nothing can be done about that. Now, it’s only Ezra and me. But with the way he is currently acting, I might end up killing him too.

I’m not doing it! I exclaim, exasperated, my hands planted firmly on my hips and a bag full of my belongings slung over my shoulder.

Sapphire. Ezra sighs for what seems like the millionth time. This is happening whether you like it or not. You’re my little sister, my only family. I can’t protect you out here alone. We need a pack, and you know that.

He pulls at my heartstrings with his words, guilting me into doing what he wants. I don’t want to be alone in the world. But I don’t want to go back there! I exclaim, stomping my foot on the ground like a toddler throwing a tantrum.

I have already spoken to Caine, Ezra says. The pack is different now. Besides, you’re all grown up now. Marc probably won’t even recognize you.

I know Ezra is trying to make me feel better, but it’s not working.

Fine, I grumble as I throw my bag into the bed of his green truck and jump into the passenger seat. But I won’t stay there if I’m unhappy.

Ezra turns to face me. But you need to give it a chance before just trying to run off.

I will give it a month, I reply immediately. If I’m still not happy after that, I will be leaving. With or without you. My mind is set. I can’t think that I would ever be happy with the Katu pack, but I’m willing to give it a try for my brother.

Whatever you say, Saph, Ezra replies before driving us toward the one place I never wanted to return.
