Brand Management of Ramraj Cottons.

Ramraj is an apparel brand of Dhoties and Shirts in south India. Its main products are white dhoties and shirts and recently entered in high end inner wears also. Ramraj group was established in 1983 and was engaged in the business of Indian Market for giving the value addition to the Indians life style. The company is located in Tirupur town, the hub of Indian knit garment industry near to the textile city of Coimbatore in Tamilnadu, in the southern state of India. The company is constituted by the enterprising technocrat Shri.K.R.Nagarajan, he has provided the vision continually behind the growth of RAMRAJ cotton dhoties. The company started with the wide exposure of dhoties marketing in Indian cultural style that to reach from town to villages. At present the company primarily markets Cotton dhoties, Shirtings, Vests, Trunk, Briefs, Panties, Shimmies, and Children inner wears.

Textile Market in Tamilnadu and Share of Ramraj
Tripur in Tamilnadu largely consists of big production houses and exporters of textiles like Eastman exports, Royal classic mills, SP Apparels, etc. On the other hand the Rs 250-crore Ramraj Group, realised the potential of the domestic market early on and is now regarded as India's dhoti king. The two main product are the humble dhoti and shirt. Both come in only one colour-white. Others are now following his lead and are looking to expand in the domestic market. Tirupur supplied just Rs 300 crore worth of readymade garments to the domestic market in 200102; the figure is expected to touch Rs 2,000 crore this year.

Competitors of Ramraj
In response to the increase in domestic demand many exporters are also following the same trend. Some companies are also moving up the value chain by building or buying brands. Royal Classic Mills has launched a range of menswear in the domestic market under the Classic Polo brand. It has built up Classic Polo into a Rs 40-crore brand in just four years and also acquired innerwear brand Smash in 2004. SP Apparels bought the loss-making Crocodile brand for Rs 7.5 crore.
