Independent Study Work for Life Science The Scientific Method Pneumonic Poster Project (Yippee! Hooray!

Excited applause!)
Background Information:
When we experiment, we use the scientific method to explore observations and answer questions. This year, you will be doing many labs and projects that will take you through the process of the scientific method. Scientists use the scientific method to search for cause and effect relationships in nature. In other words, they design experiments so changes to one item will cause something else to vary in a predictable way. You must become familiar with, and memorize the following steps to the scientific method. Remember, there are several versions to the scientific method; I am utilizing this particular version in order to prepare you for your science fair project. The Scientific Method: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7)

Ask a question or state the problem: Why is this not working? Why is this doing that? Background research: Look up information about the problem or question
Hypothesis: a possible explanation for the problem using what you know and what you observe. Test the hypothesis: Make observations, build a model and relate to real-life or experiment. Analyze the results: recording data and organizing it into tables and graphs. Draw conclusions: based on analysis of your data, is your hypothesis supported? Communicate the Results: explain the outcome

Your Task:
Create a pneumonic device to help you remember the 7 steps of the scientific method. Use the first letter of each step listed above (ABHTADC). This pneumonic device should be original and meaningful so you can remember it forever! Then, create a small poster to illustrate your pneumonic device.
Examples of Pneumonics: North, East, South, West : Never Eat Shredded Wheat Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species: King Phillip Came Over From Germany Saturday Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas

Your Poster Should Include the Following: A Title (The Scientific Method) Your first and last name All seven steps as listed above (write each step completely) An original pneumonic device (created by YOU)refer to examples to help you! The first letter of each step (ABHTADC) written in capital letters Fully illustrated with colorful drawings of your pneumonic device Correct spelling

Please bring your completed poster on the 27th!
