August 2012 Dear Wootton Families: I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health

and humor. We have been working hard at Wootton this summer to prepare for the new school year. I am personally excited about my tenth year as principal of this fine school and working with your wonderful children. Parents who drive their students to school are asked to use the parent drop off lanes in the lower lot. 2. The two lanes on the right as you enter the lower parking lot are both for student drop off. Parking is accessed by driving beyond the drop off lanes by veering to the left and following directions. There are now two exit lanes in the lower parking lot. The left lane is for northbound Wootton Parkway and the right lane is for southbound Wootton Parkway. 3. When picking up after school, parents should enter the lower lot after 2:20 p.m. 4. Parents are asked never to drop off their son/daughter on Wootton Parkway. It is a violation of the traffic laws and is also extremely dangerous to our students and other drivers. 5. Please do not drop off students on Newton Drive Our counselors will continue to work closely together to provide consistent and stable support to our students. They will meet with the incoming ninth grade students during orientation. In addition, they will meet with all of their own students in small groups in early fall. Please work with all grade level students to update and reflect on their Four Year Plan as we begin the new year.

Parking permits will be distributed to approved applicants on Tuesday, August 21, from 1:00 to 3:00pm outside of Room 41. They will receive notice via automated call no later than Friday, August 17. Approved applicants must pick up their permits in person, not by a representative. To avoid any delay, each student must show his/her valid driver’s license and bring a check or money order for $37.50 made out to Wootton High School. All financial obligations, SSL hours, and academic eligibility requirements must be met before receiving a parking permit. Permits will not be given out before 1:00 p.m. on August 21. A make-up date for picking up parking permits has been scheduled for Monday, August 27 during lunches or after school in Room 41 (the lower administrative office). Students with parking permits may begin parking in their designated space as soon as they have their permits in their hands. While we would like to provide a parking permit to every student who makes a request, please be reminded that due to the limited number of parking spaces, unfortunately every request may not be accommodated. Please remember that students’ automobiles parked in the Wootton lot and the Rockshire Shopping Center’s designated areas without a valid parking permit issued by Wootton High School will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. This will be enforced beginning the first day of school on August 27, 2012. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Gomez at 301-279-8558. We can no longer mandate a $4.00 fee for our student agenda books. However, we highly recommend that you do purchase them as they serve multiple purposes that help our students be successful here at Wootton. Once again let me reiterate my excitement at working at Wootton. It truly is a good place to be. I will continue to work hard to make sure the school remains a challenging and caring place for all of our students. Let us dedicate ourselves to work together and make this a successful school year. Sincerely,

Michael Doran, Ed.D Principal MD:eh/parent letter FY13 NOTE: On Wootton website: Bus Schedules FY13 Lower Lot Traffic Pattern Map
