SCENE ONE. FIONA and ALEXANNE BENNETT’s home. A couch, a dining table. One can see that it is a home of young women, but it still has a level of class seemingly unfitting for two women their age. Off to one side of the stage, there is a split portion of the stage. We see Fiona’s bedroom. Very classy looking, separated by a door. Her room is immaculate, and she has a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a bedside table. At the rise Fiona is still in her room, getting dressed. ALEXANNE enters. She is a quite pretty girl of about 20. She is wearing a pair of jeans, flip flops, and a long comfy cardigan sweater. Her hair is piled up on the top of her head, and she looks like she is ready to stay in for the night. She goes to the stereo and turns it on. A very angry rap song comes out of the speakers. Think an Eminem song of some kind. She dances to the song very aggressively until her sister enters and turns off the stereo. FIONA, her older sister of about 24, comes in and switches of the stereo. She is wearing a black dress, and looks quite put together for a date she is having. She is in the process of putting the finishing touches of her outfit in the next scene, and collecting her things. Alexanne glares at Fiona for turning off the music. FIONA It’s too loud.
ALEXANNE That’s how it’s supposed to be. FIONA Please, if you don’t mind waiting until I leave before you put that horrible... noise back on. ALEXANNE It’s music. FIONA It’s deafening. ALEXANNE Fine. I won’t put it back on. FIONA You’ll go deaf. ALEXANNE It’s off now, isn’t it? Beating a dead horse, much? FIONA (smiling) Don’t give me attitude. ALEXANNE Sure... “mom”... FIONA So... how do I look? ALEXANNE Cheap? FIONA (sarcastically) Perfect.
ALEXANNE No, you look fine. FIONA Just fine? ALEXANNE Pretty. You look pretty. Classy. FIONA Thank you. It’s what I was going for. ALEXANNE So, big first date tonight, huh? FIONA Sure is. ALEXANNE And how long has it been? FIONA Over a year. ALEXANNE Right. A year. FIONA Since before... I don’t want to get depressed before my amazing date, so we’ll just say it’s been a long time. ALEXANNE And since you’ve had sex? FIONA I’m not going to answer that. ALEXANNE Come on. You never tell me things anymore.
FIONA It’s because you always make fun of me. ALEXANNE I never make fun of you. FIONA Oh really? ALEXANNE Well, not on purpose. FIONA On purpose or not, you can be mean. ALEXANNE I told you I liked your dress, didn’t I? FIONA Yes. And thank you. ALEXANNE (in a sing-song) You’re gonna so laid! FIONA (smiling) Alex! ALEXANNE So, where exactly did you meet this guy? FIONA Grocery store. ALEXANNE Wait... you met him at Spallner’s Family Market? How romantic. FIONA
You know, it kind of was. We met in the produce section. ALEXANNE Did you fall in love discussing the length of his bananas? FIONA God, no! The firmness of my canteloupes. ALEXANNE Oh, of course! So super romantical! What’s his name? FIONA His name is Spencer. ALEXANNE How old is he? FIONA My age. Very handsome. ALEXANNE Gay? FIONA Obviously not. ALEXANNE Sometimes you can’t tell. Maybe he doesn’t even know. FIONA I’m sure he knows that he’s not. ALEXANNE Now, are you sure this is a good idea? FIONA What do you mean? ALEXANNE I mean... You don’t really know this guy.
FIONA I know him. ALEXANNE What’s his name again? FIONA Spencer. ALEXANNE His full name? FIONA Spencer Lucas. ALEXANNE Oh Jesus. I hate it when someone’s last name is also a first name. It seems odd. Like it’s a fake name. Maybe he gave you a fake name? FIONA Now, why on earth would he do that? ALEXANNE Who knows? Ulterior motives? Maybe he has “plans” for you tonight... FIONA You watch too many of those crime shows. ALEXANNE Hey, I’m just telling the truth. What if he’s like that Craigslist Killer? They’re gonna call him the Produce Section killer and he preys on beautiful, wealthy women, in their mid twenties who have a liking of bananas! Oh my god, Fi, you can’t go on this date! You’ll die! FIONA You know, it’s not nice to scare someone before their first date. It makes one nervous and angry. It’s not like I’m already nervous enough. ALEXANNE It keeps you on your toes. Keeps you alert. I’m just looking out for you.
FIONA Thank you, but it’s not helping. ALEXANNE Hey, I’m not the one going on a date with a potential serial killer. FIONA No, I guess you’re not. Now what about you? You’ve barely left this house in months. Do you even have a social life? ALEXANNE I do. I have a lot of friends. FIONA And do your friends include anyone not on reality television? ALEXANNE I’m just... waiting patiently. FIONA For what? ALEXANNE For someone to make me a better offer than the familial dysfunction and television euphoria that the Kardashians offer me. FIONA How about tonight? You got any plans tonight? ALEXANNE Me on this couch, listening to hard-core, homicidal hip hop. Maybe later I’ll pop some popcorn and catch up on my DVR. Best Friday night EVER! FIONA Did you take your pill tonight? ALEXANNE Yes, “mom”, I took my pill. FIONA
Don’t call me that, Alex. And the doctor said... ALEXANNE I remember what the doctor said. FIONA He said that with post traumatic stress... ALEXANNE I heard. I was there. I took the damn pill. FIONA I just want you well. Promise me you did. ALEXANNE I did. I took it. FIONA Good. Thank you. ALEXANNE Is he picking you up? FIONA We were going to meet. ALEXANNE Where? At the store? FIONA The restaurant. ALEXANNE Why? Didn’t want him to know where you lived? FIONA Something like that. ALEXANNE You are afraid he’s a murderer, aren’t you?
FIONA I’m just showing a healthy caution. It’s me being smart. It’s a standard first date practice I’m sure. It’s been a long time. People still go to French restaurants, right? ALEXANNE I think so. He’s taking to someplace fancy, huh? FIONA Chez L’Amor. ALEXANNE Setting the bar pretty high, huh? FIONA I think he wants to impress me. ALEXANNE Seems a little desperate. FIONA He’s a gentleman. ALEXANNE Justin never did that. FIONA Hey... ALEXANNE What? FIONA I haven’t heard you mention that name in a long time. ALEXANNE Oh? Really? I didn’t notice. FIONA Yeah. Do you think about him a lot?
ALEXANNE No. I’m not. I never do. Forget I mentioned him. FIONA You miss him, don’t you? ALEXANNE Of course not. What a silly question. He dumped me... FIONA It’s ok to think about him. ALEXANNE Why don’t you just focus on your dating life and stop being concerned with mine, OK? Let’s talk about how you admit that your date could be a psycho killer? FIONA I don’t admit that at all! Drop it! ALEXANNE You do look pretty. Is that a new dress? FIONA No. It’s old. I’ve only worn it once. I sort of... re-vamped it. ALEXANNE I don’t recognize it. FIONA I, uh... I wore it to Genevive’s funeral. ALEXANNE Oh. FIONA I thought it could use some air. And a different neckline and a slightly higher hem. It didn’t take me very long to do. ALEXANNE
Oh, I like it. It doesn’t look at all like “my sister was brutally raped and murdered and I’m in mourning” dress at all. FIONA Don’t be like that. ALEXANNE Be like what? FIONA Mean. ALEXANNE “Mean” you think I’m mean? FIONA Yes, I think you’re mean. ALEXANNE I’m not mean. FIONA You’re acting mean now. ALEXANNE I just think it’s dumb that you’re wearing that dress. FIONA It looks good on me. ALEXANNE Come on... seriously? FIONA What? ALEXANNE Genevive died less than a year ago, and they never caught the guy, Fi! Show some fucking respect for her. You’re going to try to get laid in your sister’s funeral dress. FIONA
You wouldn’t have even noticed if I hadn’t told you. ALEXANNE Then you shouldn’t have told me. FIONA It’s not like there’s some rule about this. ALEXANNE It’s tasteless. It’s tactless. FIONA You’re overreacting. ALEXANNE It’s disgusting. I think you should change. FIONA Honey, I’m not going to change. ALEXANNE Don’t patronize me. My name’s Alexanne, not “honey”. FIONA Why the hell are you getting so bent out of shape about a dress? It’s not like it was yours. ALEXANNE It was Genevive’s dress. FIONA Well, it’s not like she was buried in it. A slight pause. FIONA Sorry. Look... why do you think I modified the dress, huh? Because I didn’t want it to look the same dress, but it’s... it’s flattering, and I’m not going to try to have sex with Spencer tonight. It’s just dinner. It’s not disrespect. ALEXANNE
I just think it’s weird, that’s all. FIONA Well, get over it. Your negativity is bringing me down. I want to be up and happy for my date, thank you. ALEXANNE He probably wants the same thing. FIONA Probably. ALEXANNE I meant the “up and happy” part. He wants to be up, and very, very happy. FIONA You really are the cynic of the evening, aren’t you? Did you take your pill? ALEXANNE I told you that I did. FIONA Alex... ALEXANNE Fine... I’ll take it now. Fiona crosses her arms in front of her chest. ALEXANNE You’re going to watch me do it, aren’t you? FIONA I’m not going to leave until you do. ALEXANNE What a great date. FIONA Alex...
ALEXANNE Fine. Alexanne takes the bottle from the coffee table, and her bottle of pop and takes the pill. She then opens her mouth to prove that the pill has been swallowed. ALEXANNE Happy? FIONA Yes. Very. Well... I should head out. It’s almost eight. ALEXANNE Ah. Don’t be late. FIONA I won’t. You’ll be ok? ALEXANNE Do I have a choice? I took the fucking pill. FIONA Call me if you need anything? ALEXANNE I will. FIONA And you’ll be fine? ALEXANNE You already asked me that! I’ll be fine. FIONA Ok. Fiona turns to leave. ALEXANNE You really do look gorgeous. I like what you’ve done with the dress.
FIONA Thank you. I do too. ALEXANNE Have fun on your date. FIONA Don’t wait up for me. Fiona smiles and leaves. Alexanne is left alone. She goes over to the stereo and turns the music back on, loud, and goes to the couch, huddles up in a ball, and sighs. LIGHTS DIM. SCENE TWO. Later that evening, after the date. Fiona enters her home, followed by SPENCER LUCAS. Spencer is man of average build, but he is quite attractive, in fact, perhaps a little bit too baby faced for his age. Everything about him screams innocent, and he might almost seem a little bit nerdy. Fiona ushers him into the room, in which he stands in the middle of, sort of taking in the house. Almost like he is preparing for something, but the audience doesn’t yet know what. She goes to him, after taking off her coat and shuffles a few things around, clearing books from the couch, etc. SPENCER So... this is your place. FIONA Sure is. SPENCER It’s nice. FIONA Thank you. SPENCER You said you lived here with your sister?
FIONA I do, but she’s probably asleep. She won’t be disturbing us, don’t worry. SPENCER This is like... a really nice house... FIONA Our dad pays for it. SPENCER You say that as if you’re ashamed of that fact. FIONA I am... a little. I don’t want you to think that I’m a... spoiled brat, I guess. SPENCER I could never think bad things about you, Fiona. He goes to her, as if he is about to kiss her. She speaks before he gets a chance, almost shy. FIONA Want a drink? Spencer pulls back, dejected. SPENCER Yeah. I’ll have a beer if you’ve got one. FIONA Coming right up. Fiona exits into the kitchen. Spencer takes out his cell phone, and reads a text that he has received. He quickly responds to it, and slips it back into his pocket. As he is typing the text, Fiona comes back out with two beers. FIONA Something the matter? SPENCER No... just a friend checking up on me. It’s not important.
She hands him the beer and keeps the other for herself. FIONA I almost thought that we had enough to drink at dinner. SPENCER Untrue. I’m still nervous around you. FIONA Meaning? SPENCER When I’ve had too much to drink, I don’t get nervous around pretty girls. I’m still terrified, so... I’m not drunk. FIONA That’s a funny logic. SPENCER It is. And I think... considering how beautiful you are and the level of alcohol in this beer, I’m going to need to drink a lot of the bottles in order to stop being nervous around you. FIONA That’s sweet. It’s also an incredibly cheesy line. SPENCER I am the king of cheesy lines. FIONA Evidently. SPENCER Are you nervous? FIONA It’s... been a long time since I’ve had a man over. SPENCER But are you nervous?
FIONA Do I look nervous? SPENCER No. FIONA Then I’m either a really good actor, or...well... SPENCER You’re just good at hiding it, I think. FIONA I have my little tricks. My little secrets. SPENCER We all have secrets, don’t we? FIONA We do. I just hope you don’t have any big ones. SPENCER Not to my knowledge. If I did, they would be so big I wouldn’t even know about them. FIONA That’s tricky. SPENCER So... you say it’s been a long time since you had a man over. How long is a long time? FIONA Almost a year, I think. Since... SPENCER Since what? FIONA Do you read the papers? Did you hear about... no, I shouldn’t talk about it. It’s definitely not first date material.
SPENCER Please? FIONA Well... you know about my family, right? How my father is Richard Bennett? SPENCER No, I didn’t know that? Really? FIONA Really. SPENCER He’s like... super wealthy, right? FIONA More than I like to admit. Well... Spencer, this is really a fifth date kind of revelation. SPENCER That’s unfair to say. FIONA Why is it unfair? SPENCER If I had picked up a paper, I would have known by now. SPENCER It’s ok. You can tell me. Tell me about your family/ FIONA Are you sure? SPENCER I wouldn’t have asked if I weren’t. FIONA My father, Richard Bennett, is an almost-billionaire real estate guru from Miami. Overpriced homes, underpriced illegal immigrant labor, etc. Well... we think that in
protest of my dad’s... evil money-making practices, someone broke into our vacation cabin at Lewis Lake. SPENCER Did they rob him? FIONA Sort of. My sisters so happened to be there... SPENCER But I thought Alexanne was your only sister? FIONA No. Genevive was there with some friends, Alexanne was there with her boyfriend Justin, and... see, the cabin is secluded. Someone broke into the house in the middle of the night, took my sister out into the woods, raped her, tortured her, mutilated her, and killed her. They killed her with an axe. SPENCER Was Alexanne OK? FIONA No. She woke up in the middle of the night, went to Genevive’s room, and didn’t find her there. She woke up Justin, and the others, and looked for her. Alex was the one who found her. SPENCER Did they ever catch who did it? FIONA Never. There have been leads, false confessions, it’s been all over the news. There was no concrete physical evidence, and the rain washed away any clues they might have had. Now... Spencer, this is where you go running for the hills. SPENCER I wouldn’t do that. FIONA God... I’m sorry this didn’t come out at dinner, because then you wouldn’t have wasted your time. SPENCER
I didn’t say... FIONA I’m sorry that I got you all the way back to my house under the pretenses of something more possibly happening. That was rude. I’m not ready... and you hate me now... SPENCER Fiona, I didn’t say anything. FIONA But, I know what you’re thinking. It’s the same thing that every guy I’ve dated since has thought. “There’s Fiona Bennett, that rich slut who is under so much stress that she’ll fuck anything with a penis. She’s so bent up that she won’t even know the difference”... SPENCER That’s not true. FIONA I’m sorry... I’m not ready. SPENCER Hey, hey! Nothing is expected from you. I don’t care if we have sex or just stay here on your couch and watch TV, or even if you kick me out. Now, you need to tell me, are you OK? You kind of just went on an unnecessary rant, there. FIONA I’m sorry. I did, didn’t I? That was rude. If you want to leave, I understand. SPENCER It’s OK. I’m fine staying. At least until my beer is finished. Spencer smiles at Fiona, and she smiles back, they both takes swigs of their drinks. FIONA How silly. You’re practically a stranger, and here I am, going pretty crazy on your ass. SPENCER I’m not a stranger. I know a lot about you.
FIONA You do? How? SPENCER From what you told me at dinner. You like to sew. FIONA I don’t think I told you that. SPENCER I can tell. The dress your wearing, for instance, I can tell that it was redone somehow. Maybe a higher hem and a lower neckline. I can tell you did it yourself because it fits you exactly perfectly, as if the person who altered it knew exactly what the wearer wanted. I could tell that you don’t like to eat vegetables, because you picked off every pepper, onion, and broccoli off your plate and didn’t finish them. I know that... I know that you’re incredibly beautiful. I know that you have green eyes like emeralds. They kill me every time you look at me. FIONA They “kill” you? SPENCER In a manner of speaking, yes. FIONA Do you want to come upstairs? SPENCER What? FIONA With me? SPENCER What? FIONA More bluntly, do you want to fuck? SPENCER
What about what you just said? FIONA Forget what I just said! I just asked you a question. SPENCER Well... FIONA I knew it. I knew that’s what you were trying to hard to do! SPENCER Fuck you? FIONA Yeah. She smiles. SPENCER I don’t think anyone’s ever asked me that so.... frankly before. FIONA Did it make you feel uncomfortable? SPENCER No. Not at all. She goes to him and kisses him passionately. FIONA I have to tell you something... SPENCER I have to tell you something... FIONA Can I go first? SPENCER Sure.
FIONA You are the sweetest man I’ve ever met in my life and I am completely prepared to give you all of me for the first time... She stops, rethinks. FIONA For the first time in a long time. SPENCER Fiona... FIONA And you’re smart, and sexy, and intelligent, and you make me feel absolutely safe. And I think that we... SPENCER Fiona, wait. He looks around the house, and sighs. SPENCER Isn’t your sister home? FIONA Yes. So? SPENCER Maybe we shouldn’t... FIONA I think we should. SPENCER Fiona... She kisses him passionately again, and this time any hesitation that he was feeling before has completely gone away. He starts to remove her clothing, and she starts to remove his, but it’s tender and unforced. Finally, when they’ve removed sufficient amount of clothing, Fiona and Spencer start making their way into the bedroom. Through the next few pages, Spencer and Fiona make love in Fiona’s room. Very non graphically for staging, but it’s very obvious what is happening. That part of the
stage is not lit, save for some dim lighting. After a few moments of bare stage, we hear Fiona giggle. Alexanne emerges from her bedroom and scoffs. She is wearing a tee shirt and sweatpants. She is bare footed, and her hair is down. Fiona giggles again, and Alexanne shakes her head. She goes to the stereo with intentions of putting it on full blast, but doesn’t. She clicks it on, pretty quietly, and sits next to the stereo, bobbing her head to the music. After a few moments of this, there is a knock on the door. Alexanne looks up. ALEXANNE Hello? The audience can almost hear the sounds of Fiona and Spencer having sex, but not quite. ALEXANNE Hello? Who’s there? STARK (through the door) Spence? ALEXANNE No. I’m not... STARK Is Spencer here? ALEXANNE He’s... occupied. Alexanne opens the door. STARK and ETCHER are on the other side. Aaron Stark is an older man, but barely more than forty. He’s young looking, baby faced, but has very scary looking eyes. Charming, in a way. He is wearing jeans and a blazer top, he really looks like he has been out at the bars. Will “Etcher” Edgar is a tall man, only slightly overweight, but very menacing in stature. He is wearing jeans and a leather coat, he stares vacantly throughout, almost as if he is in another world. STARK Thanks, lovely. ALEXANNE Who are you?
STARK We’re friends of Spencer’s. ALEXANNE Friends? STARK Yup. You the sister? ALEXANNE I am. She crosses her arms. STARK If your sister is half as pretty as you than Spence is a lucky, lucky man. ALEXANNE What do you want? STARK Spence said he was here. My buddy, this is Will, we were down the way at a couple of bars and we just had to spend all our cash. No money left for a taxi, you see. Will and I are hammered. ALEXANNE And you are? STARK Oh, I’m sorry doll, I didn’t say did I? I’m Aaron. Aaron Stark. It’s nice to meet you. ALEXANNE You don’t look drunk. STARK I’m really good at holding my liquor. But Will here... we’ll he’s gone. ALEXANNE Now him I can tell... She smiles. Stark smiles too.
STARK Can I have some water? ALEXANNE Water? STARK For Will here. ALEXANNE Sure. You want anything? STARK Got any whiskey? ALEXANNE Vodka? STARK Ok. ALEXANNE Wait here. Alexanne goes to the kitchen for a moment. Etcher gets a bit woozy. STARK I’m just going to put Will on the couch here. ALEXANNE (from offstage) That’s ok. Stark goes and puts Etcher on the couch, and he apparently passes out. STARK You’ve got a nice place here. ALEXANNE (from offstage)
Yeah? STARK Yeah. You two live here by yourselves? ALEXANNE (from offstage) Yeah. We do. STARK Daddy pay for it? Alexanne reenters, with a glass of water, and a bottle of vodka. ALEXANNE Now what would make you think that? STARK I don’t know. It seems a little... ALEXANNE Let’s not talk about “daddy” please. STARK I didn’t mean to offend. Sorry, doll Alexanne hands Stark the glass of water, and he sets it next to Etcher. He turns to Alexanne. STARK Didn’t bring any glasses? ALEXANNE Now, what’s the fun in that? Alexanne takes off the bottle top and takes a swig straight from the bottle. She doesn’t even flinch. STARK I’m impressed. ALEXANNE
I have a lot of practice. She hands the bottle out to Stark. STARK Maybe I shouldn’t. ALEXANNE What, are you some kind of pussy? STARK That was mean. ALEXANNE Well, I’m very mean. STARK I can tell. Stark takes a swig of the bottle, also unflinching. ALEXANNE Good work. STARK Thank you very much. We hear a few giggles and noises of pleasure from the other room between Fiona and Spencer. STARK Sounds like they’re having a good time. ALEXANNE Please, let’s not. I don’t really want to think about it. Another noise. She takes another swig. STARK What’s your name, sister? ALEXANNE
My name? STARK You didn’t say. ALEXANNE I’m Alex. STARK Good name. ALEXANNE I know. STARK You’re cute. ALEXANNE I know. STARK What’s a guy gotta do have you? ALEXANNE Are you flirting with me? STARK No. ALEXANNE Yes? STARK Maybe. ALEXANNE A guy can’t do anything to have me. No one can have me. No one owns me, and no one ever will. STARK
I think you knew what I meant. ALEXANNE You’re drunk. STARK I’m... pleased. ALEXANNE Why? STARK Why would you just let us in here like that? ALEXANNE What? STARK You don’t even know us. ALEXANNE Because I’m angry. STARK Angry? ALEXANNE At... sis. And it’s not like you’re some psycho killer, right? STARK Right. Stark smiles. ALEXANNE But one thing I don’t get... STARK What’s that? ALEXANNE
He invited friends? I didn’t think this was a group date kind of situation. STARK Oh honey, the date’s over. ALEXANNE What? STARK Alexanne, you’re cute. ALEXANNE You said that. How did you know my full name? STARK Everyone knows who you are. Etcher, no longer in a daze, gets up off the couch, and grabs Alexanne from behind, placing a hand over her mouth. Alexanne is startled, but can’t put up a struggle. STARK Don’t scream. Don’t even blink. Stark takes a gun from his coat pocket and hands it to Etcher. He takes another one out from behind his waistband and sets it on the table . STARK Shh... We hear Spencer and Fiona orgasm offstage. Stark holds up a finger and looks at his watch. STARK Good boy. Right on time. He reverts his attention back to Alexanne. STARK This is what’s going to happen, doll. You’re not gonna scream, right? She shakes her head. STARK
Good girl. You’re going to do exactly as I say. Ok? There’s nothing wrong. You and sis cooperate, and nothing bad will happen. Do you understand? She shakes her head “yes”. STARK Etcher, do it. Etcher takes out rope from his pocket and ties Alexannes hands in front of her. She doesn’t dare say a work. She is frozen, almost in shock. While this happens, Stark takes another swig of the vodka. STARK Cheap vodka. You’d think with daddy’s millions you could afford better. Now stay calm, Alex, my love. And get her out here. ALEXANNE Why? STARK I’ll answer your questions later. Get her out here. Now. Alexanne tries to stay calm as she shakes her head “no”. STARK Etch... Etcher puts the gun to her head, and she brings in a sharp intake of air. ETCHER Don’t make him ask you again... ALEXANNE (her voice shaking) Fi... Fiona? STARK Louder. ALEXANNE Fiona! There is no answer.
STARK Again. ALEXANNE Fiona? FIONA (from offstage) Alex, what do you want? ALEXANNE Fiona... we have a problem. FIONA (from offstage) A problem? ALEXANNE There are some guys here. FIONA (from offstage) Guys? ALEXANNE Some guys. FIONA (from offstage) What guys? ALEXANNE Some... friends... STARK Good. FIONA
(from offstage) Alex, it’s late. Tell them to go home. ALEXANNE It’s not that easy. FIONA (from offstage) Why not? ALEXANNE Because of the gun they have pointed at me. FIONA (from offstage) That’s not funny, Alex. ALEXANNE I’m not laughing. Fiona comes in, wearing a tank top and underwear only. FIONA Alex, what the hell is going on? Fiona sees Alexanne and screams. Stark puts his gun to her face STARK Get on the floor! FIONA What is this? STARK Get on the fucking floor! Now, bitch! FIONA What do you... STARK
No questions! Keep your fucking mouth shut! Get on the ground or I’ll put you there myself! Fiona gets on the ground next to her sister. FIONA Alex... STARK Much better. He motions to Etcher. STARK Take it. Etcher snaps a picture of the girls with a digital camera. FIONA I don’t understand... STARK You don’t need to. Just keep your mouth shut and do as we say and no one gets hurt. Etcher ties Fiona’s hands like he tied Alexanne’s. Spencer enters, buttoning his pants. He is wearing only a white tee shirt besides. FIONA Spencer, oh my god Spencer, help us... Spencer ignores Fiona, and walks to Stark. SPENCER It took you long enough. STARK I should say the same to you. FIONA Spencer? STARK Oh, he’s sweet isn’t he? And a good actor. Didn’t even know.
FIONA Didn’t even know what? STARK That he was playing you this whole time. That’s my boy. FIONA What is this about? Someone please tell me. Etcher shoots another picture. STARK You don’t get to ask any questions. FIONA If this is about my father... STARK Shut the fuck up. Or I’ll shut you up myself. Spencer, get those pictures downloaded. Spencer can’t even look at Fiona. He goes outside and grabs a bag that has been hidden right inside the door, opens a laptop, takes the camera, and downloads pictures, still silent. ETCHER Boss? STARK Yeah? ETCHER Should I? STARK What do you think, you bumbling sack of shit? ETCHER No need to name call. STARK Fuck off and get it done.
Etcher goes to Alexanne. She struggles a bit and hauls her over his shoulder, taking her to the bedroom. FIONA What are you doing? Leave her alone! STARK Hey! He gets in her face. STARK No yelling... FIONA Please... whatever you want, just take it. But don’t hurt her, please. STARK No begging, either. It won’t help. Stark touches her hair softly, and then carresses her shoulder. Fiona tries to pull away. STARK God, you’re so sexy. He goes down and it looks like he is about to fondle her breast, but then... SPENCER Hey. Stark stops, looks at Spencer, smirks, just as Etcher comes back. He hauls Fiona over his shoulder. STARK Hey retard. Watch them, don’t let them out of your site, and if you don’t, I’ll shove my boot so far down your throat, you’ll shit shoe laces. ETCHER Right, boss. STARK And if either of them scream, feel free not to use warning shots.
ETCHER Sure. Etcher leaves, carrying Fiona. SPENCER You really shouldn’t patronize him at him like that. He’s bigger than you. STARK You know you have to talk very slowly to him. He’s an idiot. He’s dead weight, really. Dead weight, just like those bitches. SPENCER I’m sure they can hear you. STARK Good. (yelling) I hope so! SPENCER So... what’s the plan now? STARK I told you the fucking plan before we got here. Did you forget? SPENCER Remind me? STARK You’re hopeless. We’re going to ask for 2 million dollars from daddy dearest, one for each, to insure the safe, non-killing return to Richard Bennett’s beautiful daughters. Then he wires us the cast and we finish off the job. Plain and simple. SPENCER And we’re going to let them go? STARK Of course we’re going to let them go. After playing with them a little bit. We can’t let you have all the fun.
SPENCER That wasn’t in the plan. STARK Well, neither was fucking her to begin with, Spence, but we can’t turn back the hands of time, now can we? SPENCER I was... caught up in the moment. STARK You slipped up and slipped in. Quite unfortunate. Now we’ll all get a taste. Do you have a problem with that? SPENCER Not at all. Do anything you want. STARK You don’t care about her? SPENCER Of course not. She’s just a job. STARK Are you gonna cry about it? SPENCER No. Of course not. STARK I think you’re a little sweet on her. SPENCER It’s just a job. STARK Oh, I bet it was a good job. SPENCER That’s not funny.
STARK Tell me, was it? SPENCER Was it what? STARK A good... job? SPENCER (laughing) You’re sick. STARK Of course I am! Was it good? She’s a singer, right? So she must be good at using her tongue. SPENCER She’s very good. STARK I’ll have to see for myself. SPENCER Are we going to call the dad? STARK Let’s wait. Let’ get those girls nice and wet first. SPENCER What? STARK Sweaty. I meant let’s make em sweat first. SPENCER That’s not what you said. STARK
I don’t care what I said. Finish downloading. SPENCER Whatever you say. Spencer continues to work. Stark grabs the bottle of vodka and goes into the other room, and the scene continues. SCENE THREE. Fiona’s bedroom. Fiona and Alexanne are tied on the bed. Etcher is sitting in the desk chair watching the two of them, holding a gun in his lap. Stark enters. STARK Etcher... go search the house. ETCHER For what? STARK Search for some weapons of any kind. Knives, guns. Bring them to Spence. ETCHER Sure, boss. He exits, and throughout the course of this next scene, he brings some out to Spencer. STARK Good evening, ladies. Are we comfortable? Neither of them say a word. STARK You’re allowed to speak, if you wish. Alexanne? He holds out the bottle. STARK Want some more? ALEXANNE No.
STARK Now that’s impolite! No what? ALEXANNE No thank you. STARK No thank you, what? Alexanne looks at Stark in disbelief. ALEXANNE No thank you... sir. STARK Now, that’s what I like to hear. FIONA Why are you doing this? STARK Oh... why not? So, this is what’s going to happen. Your boyfriend in there is downloading some fun little pics for daddy, we’re gonna email him and in about... twenty minutes we’re going to give him a little call. Stark goes to Fiona’s purse which is on the desk and takes out her cell phone. He puts it in his pocket. STARK I think we’ll use yours, Fiona, what do you think? She doesn’t answer him. STARK Suddenly shy? Etcher rushes in. He’s holding a second gun. ETCHER Boss? STARK
Yeah? ETCHER Found this in the bedside table of the little one. STARK A gun. Big caliber for such a tiny lady. ETCHER What should I do with it? STARK I’ll take it. Keep searching. Etcher hands Stark the gun and goes back out to continue his search. STARK Oh, how beautiful. Oh ladies. He goes and sits in front of Alexanne on the side of the bed. He fondles her a bit, using the barrell of her gun. STARK We are going to have so much fun together, you and I. FIONA Don’t touch her! Stark clicks the safety off and points it at Fiona. She flinches, and inhales sharply. STARK What was that? FIONA What was what? STARK Did you just yell at me? FIONA No.
Fiona is noticeably terrified as Stark goes to her. STARK I don’t think I... (yelling suddenly) LIKE YELLING! Now tell me you’re sorry. FIONA I’m sorry. STARK I’m sorry, what? FIONA I’m sorry... sir. STARK Good girl. He kisses her on the nose, and is about to go out. STARK Stay here for a moment, will you. I’ll be back. He goes out into the living room to discus with Spencer. Fiona turns her boy to Alex. FIONA Alex? Alexanne doesn’t answer. FIONA Alex? She still doesn’t answer. FIONA Please answer me. ALEXANNE Why?
FIONA I want to make sure you... ALEXANNE That I’m ok? FIONA Are you ok? Did they hurt you? ALEXANNE No... they didn’t hurt me. FIONA Why did you let them in? ALEXANNE They said they knew Spencer... FIONA Alex... this wasn’t smart. ALEXANNE You’re blaming me? You know this was all your fault. FIONA How is this my fault? ALEXANNE You brought that man into our home to begin with. He knew what he was doing all along! He completely fooled you because you’re such a fucking idiot! I knew something like this would happen! FIONA You didn’t know that this would happen. ALEXANNE I told you he could have been a psycho. FIONA
There is no way that I should just assume that every man who tried to date me is a crazy person! ALEXANNE Maybe you should, now that there’s precedence. FIONA This isn’t my fault, Alex. It’s not. This isn’t my mistake to fix! ALEXANNE You shouldn’t have gone out. It’s too soon. FIONA Too soon? Please tell me you’re not still talking about Genevive. ALEXANNE It’s only been a year and you seem to be so over it. FIONA So over what? ALEXANNE You’re numb to it. You’re over it. FIONA I’m not over it. I could never be over it. That’s not something you ever get over. But I can’t live my life based around one thing that happened to this family. I have to move on! You can’t blame what’s happening now on my willingness to leave the house. I can’t keep being angry and locked in my room like you. ALEXANNE Fuck you. FIONA Fuck you too. ALEXANNE You wind up bringing a boy home... FIONA You know perfectly well that...
ALEXANNE Better off not fucking on a first date. FIONA You’re being... ALEXANNE She never would’ve... FIONA I wasn’t trying to... ALEXANNE Then what were you trying to do? FIONA Be happy. For a change. Be happy for the first time in a very long time. And it was fleeting. Now we’re in this mess. ALEXANNE Yes. Because you couldn’t keep it in your pants. And now we’re here. Thanks to you. FIONA God, you’re acting like such a bitch. What am I saying... you’re always a bitch. If you didn’t act like that all the time, then maybe I wouldn’t have felt the need to get out of the house and have a normal evening without your freakish dramatics. ALEXANNE I’m not a freak! Fiona stops, realizes that’s she’s crossed a line. FIONA I’m sorry... ALEXANNE I’m scared. I’m just... scared. FIONA I know. I am too. I need to... we need to do something. We can’t just sit here and wait.
ALEXANNE What would we do? FIONA We have to fight . They already took your gun dad gave you, we have to figure out some way to get out of this. ALEXANNE What about the kitchen? FIONA What about it? ALEXANNE We have some not so blunt objects in there, that is if they haven’t found them already. Knives, an ice pick... FIONA I don’t... maybe that wouldn’t be a good idea. ALEXANNE Why not? FIONA Because they... well... ALEXANNE We should make a run for it. FIONA And get shot in the back? I think not. ALEXANNE Well, do you have any other brilliant plans? FIONA No. I have no idea how to get out of this... not at all. ALEXANNE
I may have an idea. That guy... Spencer... I think he actually does think you’re attractive. FIONA I don’t know that... ALEXANNE Sure you do! He slept with you. FIONA That means nothing, Alex! He just did that to get in the house. There’s no indication that he actually has feelings... any feelings at all. ALEXANNE Regardless, I know he finds you attractive. I see it in his eyes. Fi, that’s a huge advantage for us. We can use that to get what we want. FIONA Which is exactly what he did to me. ALEXANNE Would you get the fuck over the date and get into survival mode! We’re going to die if we hesitate. We can’t just sit here and wait for them to decide that we’re unnecessary. I don’t doubt that they would kill us. FIONA It’ll never work... ALEXANNE You don’t know that... it might... FIONA They’ll know something is up. They can’t be that stupid... ALEXANNE They underestimate us, Fi. Let’s show them why that’s true. Stark, Etcher, and Spencer come into the bedroom. Etcher is holding the digital camera, and Stark is holding Alexanne’s gun. STARK
Ok, ladies. Who’s ready to talk to daddy? Stark holds out the gun to Alexanne, and she looks at her sister. LIGHTS OUT. SCENE FOUR. A few hours later. Fiona and Alexanne are still tied in the bedroom, Alexanne actually appears to be sleeping. Stark paces back and forth, using the gun to scratch his head. Spencer is at the computer, and Etcher is attacking the vodka bottle. SPENCER You need to calm down STARK Something’s wrong. It’s been two hours and we haven’t heard. SPENCER We will. STARK I’m impatient. SPENCER Obviously. STARK Did the Wi-Fi work? SPENCER Wi-Fi’s working just fine. I don’t know what the problem is. STARK God dammit. SPENCER Stark, you need to relax. STARK I can’t fucking relax.
SPENCER Sit down. When you get fidgety you always do things you regret. STARK That’s not true. SPENCER Yes it is. There is a silence for a while. STARK Bring me the girl. SPENCER Which one? STARK The little one. SPENCER I’m not going to bring you the girl... STARK Etcher, bring me the girl. SPENCER Etcher, don’t. What are you thinking? STARK You don’t want to know what I’m thinking. SPENCER Etcher, leave the girl. What the fuck are you playing at? STARK I told you. I’m sad that you go to have all the fun. SPENCER You stay away from her.
STARK Such sentiment. It makes you weak. SPENCER I’m not sentimental. STARK Etcher, is he sentimental. ETCHER He’s sentimental. STARK See? Man can’t even tie his own shoes and even he can tell that you’re acting like a pussy. SPENCER I just don’t think that... STARK You’re not here to think, pretty boy. You’re job’s done. Now you take orders from me, get it. I didn’t put this whole thing together to see it fucked up by some idiot who falls for the mark. SPENCER I didn’t fall for the mark. STARK Etcher, is he falling for the mark? ETCHER He fell. STARK See? Etcher thinks so. SPENCER Etcher must know everything. STARK
You know why they call him Etcher, boy? Because he’s good with a knife... I get a little bit more impatient, I won’t be able to hold the boy back. On you, or on the ladies. Now... I want you to go in there and have a little chat with big sis. Ask her why she thinks daddy hasn’t called. Can you do that? SPENCER I can do that. STARK Good boy. Stark sits and chats with Etcher as Spencer goes into Fiona’s bedroom. Alexanne is still asleep. Spencer goes into the room quietly. FIONA Come back for another “taste”, Spence. SPENCER How’s she doing? FIONA She finally fell asleep. She needs to take a pill. SPENCER What pill? FIONA She takes an anti-anxiety. She has night terrors. She took one earlier, but she didn’t sleep. She needs to take another one. SPENCER You look out for her. FIONA Of course I do. No one else does. SPENCER Yes. Right. I can get the pills. FIONA Thanks.
SPENCER Do you need them now? FIONA No. I’m fine now. SPENCER Night terrors? FIONA Post traumatic stress. From the night she found Genevive. She has... she... it’s fucked her up. SPENCER I’m sorry. That must kill you. FIONA A lot of thinks can kill a person. SPENCER Right. FIONA But do you know what really kills me? You. SPENCER Me? I’m not going to... FIONA How nice you actually were. You were just so... perfect. I know now it was a little too perfect. It was an act. SPENCER No one’s perfect. FIONA Obviously. SPENCER Don’t look at me like that.
FIONA Spencer Lucas isn’t even your real name is it? SPENCER No. No it’s not. FIONA I slept with someone and I don’t even know his real name! I feel like such a slut! SPENCER You’re not a slut. FIONA Then tell me your real name. SPENCER I can’t do that. FIONA Why not? SPENCER Boss man told me not to. FIONA He’s holding your strings, isn’t he? SPENCER Yeah. He is. FIONA You make me sick. SPENCER Yeah. Nothing I can do about that. FIONA Do you know what he’s going to do to us? SPENCER
I have an idea. FIONA Which is what? SPENCER He’s going to get the money from your father and he’s going to let you go. FIONA You’re not going to actually tell me are you? SPENCER I’m sorry. I can’t. FIONA There’s not much you can tell me, is there? SPENCER I’m sorry. FIONA Are you really? Doubt it. SPENCER Look... I am sorry. I wish it hadn’t have worked out this way. I wish that this were easier for you, I really do. But this isn’t a fucking joke. This is something real and terrifying and the sooner you get your act together... you don’t want some bad shit to happen, do you? FIONA What? Worse than this? SPENCER It could always be worse. FIONA Why? Are you going to break my heart again? SPENCER Break your heart? One date, Fiona. That’s all it was.
FIONA It wasn’t... just that. SPENCER You weren’t in love with me. FIONA No. Of course not. SPENCER Fiona... FIONA You were my first. SPENCER What? FIONA I ... I was a virgin... You were my first. SPENCER No... no, no, no... that can’t be right. I thought you were... FIONA A slut? SPENCER No! I never thought that. I just didn’t know. FIONA Well, you never asked, did you? You’re just as heartless as your buddies. I lost my virginity to a man who may or may not kill me. And I don’t even know his real name. What a fucking tragedy I live in... SPENCER Matthew. FIONA What?
SPENCER My name is Matthew. Don’t tell anyone I told you that. Matthew Spencer Barszer. FIONA (Acidic) Nice to meet you, Matthew Barszer. SPENCER Don’t be like that. FIONA All I want you to do is fuck off and die, Matthew Barszer. SPENCER Fiona, please. FIONA Matthew Barszer, you disgust me to my very core. I loathe you. If you were deadin the streets I wouldn’t even pause to spit on your lifeless corpse. SPENCER That’s... FIONA You’ve just... SPENCER Fiona... I want to help you. FIONA What? SPENCER I want to help you. Listen to me very carefully. FIONA Why are you helping me? SPENCER
Stark... He’s... impatient. No so far he’s been pretty level headed, but... we wait much longer before your dad calls, and who knows what’ll happen. FIONA What are you saying? SPENCER He might hurt you... or Alex, and I don’t want that to happen. FIONA If you were so concerned with people getting hurt, then you shouldn’t have started this in the first place, now should you? Spencer reaches into his pocket and gives Fiona her cell phone. FIONA What is this? SPENCER I swiped it back from Stark. FIONA What are you doing? SPENCER Text your dad. Text the police, I don’t care. We just need to get Stark what he wants or something is going to happen that I won’t be able to stop. Stark he’s... not balanced. He a psychopath. The last job we were on... he... I shouldn’t even say. Things got back, they went south... and... he went a little crazy. It was supposed to be a simple in and out but he... Fiona, I don’t want to see that happen again. Not to you. FIONA Why do you even care? SPENCER Because maybe you weren’t just a mark. He goes to kiss her on the lips, and she pulls away, emitting a noise of genuine disgust. SPENCER I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. Hide the phone.
Stark comes back into the room. STARK (in sing-song) I’m so bored! Please someone play with me! Alexanne wakes up. STARK Ah! She rises? Did you sleep well, my princess? ALEXANNE Fine. STARK Come on, babe, let’s have a little chat. You... stay in here. ETCHER! Etcher perks up in the other room. STARK MAKE ME A DRINK! Etcher goes to do so. STARK Come with me, my lady! He pulls Alexanne up. SPENCER Stark, I don’t think. STARK Don’t even think, why don’t you relieve some boredom yourself? Wink, wink. Stark brings Alexanne into the living room. Spencer looks at Fiona. SPENCER Don’t worry. I’ll keep my eye on him. Spencer gets up, and goes to the door, where he can keep an eye on Stark. Etcher brings Stark the bottle of vodka.
STARK Is this my drink? ETCHER They’ve got nothing else. STARK ‘t will serve. Thank you. No go check the house. ETCHER For what? STARK Just get lost. Etcher leaves. Stark turns back to Alexanne, who is half asleep it seems, sitting on the couch. STARK Ah... our first date! Are you having a good time, my beauty? ALEXANNE No. STARK No what? ALEXANNE No, sir. STARK I like it when you talk to me like that. Are you ready to have some fun? Some, sexy fun. Stark stands, and pulls out the gun, but he doesn’t point it at her at first. STARK You really do have a beautiful home, Alex. ALEXANNE Yes.
STARK It’ll look great with a little... redecoration. Alexanne looks at Stark like she’s confused. STARK Well, you know. A nice crimson back splash here, here, and here. It’ll look very good. Stark gets close to her. STARK You’re so pretty. ALEXANNE Leave me alone. STARK How’d you get so pretty? You’re a lot prettier than your sister. She’s pretty sexy herself, don’t get me wrong, but... you’re fucking gorgeous. Say “thank you, sir”. ALEXANNE Thank you, sir. STARK Oh, I’m dreaming. You’re not wearing a bra, are you? I bet we woke you up, and you don’t sleep in a bra. You’re in your pjs, also dreaming. ALEXANNE This is all a dream. STARK Keep telling yourself that, baby. ALEXANNE Why are you doing this? STARK What do you mean? ALEXANNE
My dad’s rich, he’s going to have no problem paying the ransom, so the fuck what? But you’re psychotic. You don’t care about that. You’re going to kill us anyway, are you? STARK Now, why the fuck did you go ahead and spoil the ending? How’d you know it? ALEXANNE I guessed. STARK Good work. A bit of a spoiler alert, but still... very nice. ALEXANNE But why can’t you just take the money and go? We won’t tell anyone, why kill is? STARK It’s not a matter of you talking, or telling the cops, or coming after us. There’s a very simple explanation, baby. ALEXANNE And what’s that? STARK Because it’s fun. And I’m bored. ALEXANNE Fun? STARK Have you ever killed anyone before? ALEXANNE No. STARK You killed anything at all? Ran over a rabbit in the street while driving? Everyone has. You liked the rush of it, didn’t you? Hearing and feeling the bones crush underneath the wheels, looking back and seeing that poor animal struggle to get to the side of the road before that SUV coming down the way runs over it again. Watching that poor creature cling to life, take its last breath. It got you wet, didn’t it?
ALEXANNE No. STARK Liar. You remember, and you loved it. Sick little freak. ALEXANNE Don’t call me a freak. STARK Why not? Sore subject? ALEXANNE Just don’t. STARK Say please. ALEXANNE Please. STARK Please what? ALEXANNE Sir... STARK Since you asked so nicely. I wonder how your sister is doing in there. With...Spencer.... What’s the going rate for an ass like hers on the streets, do you think? Alexanne glares at him. STARK Oh... the ice woman cometh. But, oh, it’s so nice to have this time with you. ALEXANNE (Sarcastically) It’s great.
STARK You are so fucking sexy. ALEXANNE So you said. STARK Do you think that I’m sexy? No, you don’t have to answer that, it wouldn’t be fair. I’m holding a gun to your head, after all. Come on. Say that you think I’m sexy. ALEXANNE I think you’re sexy. STARK Now... say it and mean it. ALEXANNE No thank you. STARK No thank you what? ALEXANNE No thank you... sir. STARK Tell me what you really think of me. ALEXANNE You don’t want to know. What I think of you. STARK Oh, please. ALEXANNE And what would happen if I told you? STARK I don’t know. Try me.
ALEXANNE No. STARK No what? ALEXANNE No... sir... Stark gets closer to her and whispers in her ear. STARK Are you a virgin? I bet you are. Never been touched by a man before in your life. God... you smell so fucking good I can’t stand it. Oh, honey... don’t be afraid of me. I would never want to smell that on you. I prefer the... He smells her deeper, taking a large breath in. STARK Rosehips? Hint of lavender. Almost... a garden. You smell like a garden, lovely. I like it. Thank me for liking it. ALEXANNE Thank you. STARK Tell me what you think of me, Alexanne. Tell me how you really feel. ALEXANNE I think you’re a horribly small man. STARK Small? ALEXANNE In every sense of the word. Stark, in a moment of rage takes Alexanne by the hair, and pulls her head back. STARK I wouldn’t test me, love. My ex-wife said that to me once. Right after she fucked my best friend’s brains out. You know what I did then? I blew his brains out.
He backs off a little bit. STARK Do I scare you? ALEXANNE No. STARK No? ALEXANNE No. STARK Why not? ALEXANNE I just don’t have a lot of good fear left. STARK Now that’s sexy. ALEXANNE You don’t scare me, but you do sure as hell disgust me. STARK You’re not a virgin. ALEXANNE No? STARK You can’t be. You’re too... ALEXANNE I’m too what? STARK Too... raw. Answer the question.
ALEXANNE No thank you. STARK No... this is the one where you say “yes, sir”. ALEXANNE Jesus... STARK That’s not my name, sexy... ALEXANNE That’s right... you’re Aaron... Aaron Stark. STARK You don’t really think I gave you my real name, do you? Do you think I’m that stupid? I’m still smarter than you. And more powerful. I have the gun. ALEXANNE How nice it is that you need the gun to feel like a real man. STARK Don’t test me... ALEXANNE Is that why your wife fucked another man? STARK Bitch... ALEXANNE Because you weren’t man enough for her? STARK Shut the fuck up! ALEXANNE Because you didn’t satisfy her...
STARK I will put a bullet in your brain. Make no mistake about that. ALEXANNE No you won’t. Not yet. STARK Don’ t play games with me, Alex. I‘ll get you sister in here and have those boys play musical chairs with her. Cut her up good. Etcher’s got some palpable skills. Do you want that for her? You’re the younger one, I know, but... I can tell how much you care. It’s sweet. Bet your sweet too. He puts a hand on her upper inner thigh. ALEXANNE Get your hand off me. STARK No... you didn’t say please. ALEXANNE Please... STARK Please what? ALEXANNE Please... sir... STARK Good girl. Stark moves away from her. STARK I’m very interested in something, love. Do you want to know what I’m wondering? ALEXANNE No. STARK
I’m interested in your sister. ALEXANNE Fiona doesn’t... STARK Not Fiona. I’m talking about your other sister. Genevive? ALEXANNE How do you know about Genny? STARK It was all over the papers. Why do you think that you were the mark? A multimillionaire already loses one daughter in a senseless bloodbath. What if I, the senseless bloodbath, came back to haunt him one more time. Wouldn’t you think that he would do anything in his power to protect his two living daughters? ALEXANNE I’m not going to tell you about her. STARK Oh, please? ALEXANNE Not now. Not ever. STARK Oh, pretty please? I’m so very intrigued. ALEXANNE No. STARK Now, Alexanne Bennett, what did I teach you about saying no to me? I know that you were the one who found her. ALEXANNE You read that in the papers. STARK Yes. Everyone knows that. So, tell me about it.
Alexanne doesn’t answer. STARK Oh please, Alex. Let me in on all the dirty details. ALEXANNE Why do you care? STARK (startling her) Because I’m BORED! ALEXANNE It’s because violence gets you hard. STARK Now, who spilled the beans on that? ALEXANNE You practically have an erection right now. STARK You say that like you’ve never seen one before. Now... tell me. And don’t paraphrase. ALEXANNE It was raining... STARK Good... get a nice tone going. A setting for the story. ALEXANNE It was raining a lot, actually. The police said that because of that, it washed away a lot of the evidence. STARK And they never found the person who did it? ALEXANNE Yes. Right. They didn’t.
STARK And your boyfriend... that Justin guy... he was the one you lost your virginity to. ALEXANNE He was there that night too. STARK Tell me. ALEXANNE We were at the cabin for New Years. Fi had to work, but dad let the rest of us go down. Some friends went. Our cousin Allison was there, a couple of friends from school. None of us heard a thing. I woke up in the middle of the night, and I... I walked outside. STARK Now, why would you do that? ALEXANNE I thought I heard a noise. I saw... Justin coming back from the woods. He said he had been out looking for Genevive... he couldn’t find her. STARK You believed him? ALEXANNE So I went into the woods. I walked down this little path by the lake, only the moon was out, reflecting into the water like diamonds, and I found her. STARK What did she look like? ALEXANNE I’m not going to... STARK Oh please, beautiful. Describe her. ALEXANNE I really don’t...
Stark gets in her face. STARK Describe her. Was she naked? ALEXANNE Yes. STARK Bloody? ALEXANNE Yes. STARK Where? Alexanne doesn’t answer. STARK Where was she bloody? ALEXANNE Her face. Her thighs. Her torso. STARK Stabbed? ALEXANNE More like... hacked. STARK Hacked? ALEXANNE An axe. She was killed with an axe. STARK How’d they know? ALEXANNE
They did those... tests. The CSI type stuff. But they don’t know for sure. They never found the weapon. They think that it was thrown in the lake or hidden. They also... they think that she was raped. STARK They think? ALEXANNE They didn’t find anything... they think he used a condom. STARK God... Alex, you’re turning me on. ALEXANNE You’re disgusting. STARK And you’re so fucking gorgeous. He kisses her, grabbing her head as he does so. Alexanne manages to push him off of her. ALEXANNE Get off me, you fucker! STARK Oh. So hostile. You’ve got a little bite to you, don’t you. ALEXANNE Stay away. STARK I see right through you, Alexanne Bennett. You’re not quite who you say you are, are you? ALEXANNE What? STARK Kindred spirits find each other. ALEXANNE
I’m not your kindred spirit. STARK Maybe not exactly, but... the violence of the world doesn’t quite hit you the way it hits others. Wars, murder... it kind of... excites you, doesn’t it? The danger of it all. ALEXANNE What would make you think... STARK You let us in earlier, remember? Two complete strangers. You sat with us, drank with us, I could tell you were kind of into me, weren’t you? Do you know why? Because of the danger. You love it. I can tell in the way you talk about your sister’s murder. ALEXANNE You forced me to. STARK “The way the moon reflected into the lake like diamonds” or something. You romanticized it, love. You made it sound so beautiful. He gets very close to her. STARK Only someone like me would do that. Only a fucking sociopath. He whispers. STARK I think you know exactly who killed your sister. Alexanne pauses for a second, and then pushes him to the floor. Stark gets up, and smacks her across the face, her falling to the floor. Spencer enters the room. STARK Fucking bitch! SPENCER Hey, that’s enough! Calm down! STARK
Did you just see that? SPENCER I think you deserved it. Are you ok? STARK Don’t ask her that! ALEXANNE I’m fine. SPENCER Back off! STARK You don’t get to order me around. He looks at his watch. STARK It’s late. We haven’t heard back. ETCHER! Etcher emerges from the kitchen. STARK Bring the other one in here. Etcher goes to the other room and brings out Fiona. STARK We’re going to call daddy again. Stark goes into his blazer pocket and realizes the cell phone is gone. STARK Where’s the phone? SPENCER What? STARK Where’s the FUCKING PHONE!
He searches. SPENCER You had it last? STARK Of course I did! What kind of idiot are you, fucking... He looks at Alexanne. STARK Did you fucking steal it? ALEXANNE What? No... STARK You fucking stole it, didn’t you? Gonna try to call the police? ALEXANNE I didn’t steal it. STARK What about you? FIONA I didn’t... STARK Etcher, search her. FIONA What? Etcher goes to Fiona and searches. He is perhaps too rough with her. SPENCER Hey, watch it! STARK Shut up.
Etcher continues to search. STARK Check the bra. SPENCER Now that’s just... Etcher goes under Fiona’s shirt and uncovers the cell phone. He hands it to Stark. STARK Well, well, well... sticky fingers? What’s this? FIONA I... Stark looks through the phone. His smile fades. STARK Ok ladies. It’s time to play a little game. It’s gonna be really fun! FIONA A game? ETCHER (overly excited) Tell us how we play! SPENCER What are you... STARK Well, how we start the game is that Etcher... he’s going to do what he does best. Etcher smiles, and takes out a knife from his pocket. ALEXANNE Oh my god... SPENCER Stark, god dammit...
STARK Stand down, soldier. This is between me and that bitch over there. SPENCER You don’t have to do this. You’re just stressed out. We can try calling again... STARK Here are the rules. Fiona, I’m going to be over here with this knife to your sister’s inner thigh, cutting it up nice and good, while you spill your pretty little mouth about how you knew his name, and why you texted it to your fathers fucking cell phone! I’m not going to stop until I’m completely satisfied, or you sister’s femoral artery is going to bleed out and dry up like the Sahara desert. Now, shall we play? FIONA No...please. SPENCER Stark... STARK I said SHUT THE FUCK UP! I have the power here. I’m in charge, and we’re to do exactly what I say. NO ONE is going to convince me otherwise! SPENCER This is what happened last time, do you remember last time? STARK Fuck last time! I’ve already been far too nice. Now, I will be nice and give her something. Stark snaps his fingers. ALEXANNE What? Etcher takes a towel, rolls it up, and puts it in Alexanne’s mouth. She squirms as Etcher then physically ties her to the chair. SPENCER No! Stop this! This has gone too far! STARK
Sorry Spence, I don’t really think this is your decision. It would give me no greater pleasure to see her squirm, and her sister bleed. Tell me how you knew. He slices her leg. Alexanne screams. SPENCER Oh god... FIONA (paralyzed) I... I... I... STARK Tell me, gorgeous, and this will all be over. Stark makes another cut. Alexanne screams again. FIONA (beginning to cry) Please stop... STARK Why? Are you jealous? FIONA Please stop hurting her... STARK Then tell me what I want to know! Fiona doesn’t answer. Another cut, another scream. FIONA Please... STARK You’re really hurting your sister. You might want to help now. FIONA (at a loss for words)
I can’t... please... just... SPENCER I told her. STARK My, my, my... SPENCER It’s true. I told her. STARK Why the fuck would you do that? SPENCER Because she asked. STARK Oh... I get it. You fucked her once, and now you have a “connection” with her? I’ve never heard anything more disgusting in my life. SPENCER Well, you would know about disgusting, wouldn’t you? STARK We have a job to do, and you’re letting your emotions getting the way. SPENCER You were supposed to do the research, Stark. You missed the fact that Fiona’s a virgin. STARK Wow. A virgin. You don’t get manyy of those your age, do you. SPENCER That was wrong... Stark pulls Spencer roughly aside. STARK Etcher... watch them...
ETCHER Done. STARK Your conscience is showing, Spence. We have a fucking job to do! We don’t have the time to care about minor details. You want that money, then you need to take any baggage of guilt off your shoulder, light a match, and burn it nice and crispy. Do you think you could do that for me? Or are you too much of a GODDAMNED WOMAN that you need to have a “dear diary” moment! SPENCER Settle down. STARK Don’t you fucking tell me to settle down! I’m the only one around her who seems to know what I’m doing. And that’s pretty fucking sad. SPENCER Stop your whining. You’re the one who sounds like a woman. STARK I wouldn’t test me, Spence. SPENCER And why not? Stark takes out the gun and points it point blank to Fiona’s head. STARK Because I’m the one holding the gun to your girlfriends head. Spencer calculates his next move in his head. SPENCER She’s nothing. STARK Prove it. Stark hands Spencer the knife. SPENCER
What the fuck... STARK I think you know what I mean. Prove to me that this is nothing but a job to you. SPENCER No. I won’t do it. STARK You’re going to do it and you’re going to love it. Take it . SPENCER No. I’m not going to... STARK YOU FUCKING TAKE IT OR I’LL BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF! Stark gets icy. STARK Your pick, pretty boy. Without a word. He goes to Fiona, kneels in front of her, and puts the knife to her inner thigh. FIONA Matthew, please... He looks at Stark. SPENCER Get the sister bandaged up. We don’t want her to bleed out. Etcher takes a now limp Alexanne to the kitchen. Stark remains. STARK This is going to be sexy. SPENCER I’m going to want some privacy. STARK
What? SPENCER I want some privacy. STARK I don’t think... SPENCER Stark! STARK Fine. He goes to the kitchen. Spencer turns back to Fiona. FIONA Matthew, please don’t do this. SPENCER I want you to listen to me very carefully. I’m going to yet you and your sister out of here. FIONA What? SPENCER Don’t talk. Just listen. They’ve taken all the weapons from you and your sister. Is there anything they could have missed. FIONA I... I don’t know... SPENCER Think. FIONA Toolshed, maybe? SPENCER Good. That’s good. I’ll check there. Where else?
FIONA I... I really don’t know. Maybe Alex will know. Matthew... SPENCER I’m going to get you out of here. STARK (from offstage.) I don’t hear anything! SPENCER Scream. FIONA What? SPENCER SCREAM! Fiona screams, as if she is in pain. SPENCER Good. He unties Fiona. SPENCER Stay here for a second. I’m going to bring your sister in, ok. FIONA Ok. He reaches into his back pocket. SPENCER Here. My cell. Use it if you need to, ok. Call the police. He hands it to her. She takes it. Their hands linger. FIONA Thank you.
SPENCER You’re welcome. I’m so sorry. Spencer runs into the other room. We hear mumbled noises and Spencer brings back in Alexanne. She is limping, but she looks as if she may have regained some strength. SPENCER Here. You girls stay in here. I’ll distract them. I’ll check that toolshed for more weapons, too. I’ll be back. STARK (from offstage) WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON! SPENCER Stark, relax! Just let them alone... Spencer goes back into the kitchen. Fiona runs to Alexanne and unties her. FIONA Alex! Are you ok? ALEXANNE I’ll live. FIONA Weapon? A place they may not have checked? Alexanne looks at her sister, and something switches in her. ALEXANNE They’re going to kill us. FIONA What? ALEXANNE I heard them talking. The three of them. They’re planning on killing us as soon as they come back. FIONA
But Matthew said... ALEXANNE He’s still bull-shitting you. Giving you false hope. You can’t trust him, Fi. You can’t. FIONA But he... ALEXANNE He’s lied to you before. What’s makes you think that he’s not lying to you now? He just like the rest of them. It doesn’t matter what they do, or how many times they say they love you. In the end, they just want to fuck your sister. FIONA What? ALEXANNE Fuck... fuck over your sister. I have to... my mattress. FIONA Alex... ALEXANNE Between my mattress and my box spring there’s a... there’s something. Find it, and use it. FIONA What are you... ALEXANNE Quick. Find it, and use it. I’m going to distract them. Go! Fiona looks at her sister for a long hard moment, and then runs out towards the bedroom. Alexanne paces, limping, preparing herself. Stark bursts through the door, Etcher close behind her. STARK (booming) WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING! ALEXANNE
Please... STARK Where’s your sister? ALEXANNE Forget about my sister. Aren’t I the one you want? Stark contemplates long and hard. He looks at Etcher, then back to Alexanne. He slowly begins to go towards her. STARK What are you doing, little girl? ALEXANNE Exactly what you want? Whatever you want. STARK Whatever I want? Alexanne looks towards where Fiona has gone off. STARK And where’s your sister? ALEXANNE She’s... waiting for Etcher. ETCHER Huh? ALEXANNE She’s got a big old surprise for you. Etcher looks at Stark. Stark nods in the direction, and smiling, Etcher exits. STARK You’re just full of surprises. ALEXANNE Yes.
STARK I see you’ve decided to come around. ALEXANNE Yes. STARK Daddy still hasn’t called? ALEXANNE He doesn’t care about us. STARK No? ALEXANNE He’ll pay, sure, but he doesn’t want to waste his time with negotiations. Me? I love to negotiate. STARK So, we’re negotiating now, are we? ALEXANNE Yes. We are. She sits down on the couch, undoes the drawstring of her sweats and removes her shirt. STARK My god. ALEXANNE Come here. STARK What are you doing? ALEXANNE You said it yourself... we’re kindred. STARK
Re-translate. ALEXANNE In English... I want to fuck you senseless... Aaron. STARK You do, do you? ALEXANNE Absolutely. We hear a bit of a crash from the other room, and Etcher moaning loudly. A loud gasp from Fiona, then silence. STARK What was that? ALEXANNE What was what? STARK That sound I just heard. ALEXANNE I didn’t hear anything... STARK Of course your did. ALEXANNE I suppose that was just... Etcher giving it to my sister? STARK What? ALEXANNE She wants to negotiate too. Now take off your pants. Stark smirks at Alexanne. She smiles back, but there is something hidden in her smile. Something dark. STARK
Alright. Stark takes the gun out of his pocket, and sets it on the table. He removes his pants, and his shirt, leaving only boxers. ALEXANNE You are so incredibly sexy. STARK Thank you. Likewise. ALEXANNE Come here. He goes to her, practically panting. She stands up, and kisses him, passionately. She moves her hand to the front of his boxers, and Stark let’s out a moan, the first time that we truly see him being vulnerable. STARK So... you want to negotiate? ALEXANNE Long... and hard. STARK What do you want? ALEXANNE Just you. Stark lets out a little growl, as he pounces on top of her. Alexanne feigns enjoyment, as her sister appears in the doorway of the hall. She is covered with splatters of blood, a majority of which is on her face and chest, and she is holding a shiny silver axe. She is in daze, walking slow, and steady, almost terrified, almost shaking. She snaps out of it and notices her sister beginning to have sex with Stark. Alexanne meets her gaze, and nods. STARK (getting into it) Oh fuck... ALEXANNE
Aaron... Aaron stops. STARK What is it, baby? Alexanne puts her feet on Aarons chest, and in one swift motion, kicks him over the back of the couch, out of view. Fiona advances on him, and brings the axe down. Blood spurts, and Stark screams. Fiona hits him maybe seven times, before the screaming stops. Fiona stands up straight, and walks up next to the couch. She looks at her sister, still in a bit of a haze. ALEXANNE Fi? FIONA Oh my god... Alexanne reaches for the axe and takes it from her. FIONA Did I just... ALEXANNE Yeah... you did. Spencer rushes back in. SPENCER What’s going on? Did I just hear screaming? He sees Stark. SPENCER Oh my god... what happened? ALEXANNE We negotiated. They lost. SPENCER This wasn’t part of the plan. ALEXANNE
It was part of our plan. Alexanne stands up, the axe still in hand. SPENCER Oh... but I... Fiona? Fiona are you hurt? He goes to her. SPENCER Fiona, speak to me. ALEXANNE She’ll be fine. I think she just needs a glass of water. She’s dehydrated. SPENCER Oh. ALEXANNE Could you go get it for her? SPENCER Yes of course. Fiona, it’ll be ok. Fiona still in her daze, Spencer rushes to the kitchen. Without a word, Alexanne takes the axe, and goes into the kitchen as well. SPENCER (from offstage) What are you doing? Oh god! No! We hear Spencer’s screams for a few moments, and then silence. Fiona simply looks up, but still does not move or say a word. Alexanne reenters. She is covered in blood in a very similar way that Fiona is. She goes to her sister. ALEXANNE (very non chalantly) Do you have a cell? Fiona takes out Spencer’s phone from her bra, and hands it to Alexanne. Alexanne dials, and goes into actor mode. ALEXANNE
(on the phone) Oh god! Is this 911! Thank you so much! My sister and I we... we were home and these three men came to our house! They raped us and... oh god... She pretends to break down. ALEXANNE No... we’re ok, but they had an axe! They were trying to kill us! My name is Alexanne Bennett, and my sister Genevive... I think these guys... I think they... I think they killed her too! Alexanne listens. ALEXANNE Yes... we’re at 4455 S Grandview Ct. Please hurry! My sister... she’s still in shock! Please hurry! She hangs up the phone, and goes to her sister. ALEXANNE Fiona? Fiona! Fiona looks at her, she seems like she’s coming out of her shock. FIONA Alex... ALEXANNE Yeah, sis? FIONA What did we just do? ALEXANNE We killed our would be murderers. FIONA But Matthew wasn’t... ALEXANNE
They all kill, Fi. That’s what men do. They kill. If it’s not other men in wars, then it’s them murdering love. Men deserve to suffer just as much as women do, don’t you think? FIONA Where’s the axe from? ALEXANNE What? FIONA Where is the axe from? ALEXANNE I don’t understand the question. FIONA Where did you get the axe? ALEXANNE I can’t abide men fucking my sister like that, Fi, I just can’t. FIONA We just had sex. Sure he turned out to be a lunatic, but... He wasn’t all bad. ALEXANNE Oh god... you still think I’m talking about you? Fiona, you disappoint. Fiona understands. FIONA Oh my god... Alex... you killed her? ALEXANNE I’m sorry? FIONA You did it. That night at the lake. You killed Genny? ALEXANNE
No, no, no, no, no... Fiona... she killed herself. She committed suicide the moment she fucked Justin. Betrayal will do crazy things to people. won’t it? FIONA Matthew... ALEXANNE You didn’t really love him, remember? He just wanted to get laid and get money. It’s almost tragic. FIONA He was trying to help me... ALEXANNE I helped you. You’ve always looked out for me. I just... returned the favor. FIONA You really are insane. ALEXANNE Well... we have all our little things, don’t we? And the apple doesn’t fall very far from the... other apple. Fiona looks at the blood on her hands. FIONA Jesus... ALEXANNE Self defense, Fi. No court in the world will convict. You were raped. FIONA But I wasn’t... ALEXANNE Yes, you were. They’ll find the stuff around. You have bruises and scrapes all over you! They’ll know what happened. They’ll make their assumptions and we don’t have to even say a word. FIONA I don’t like this.
ALEXANNE No shit. FIONA This must be the feeling you get in hell. ALEXANNE Don’t be so dramatic. It’s ugly on you. We should get these guys... FIONA We should wait for the police... ALEXANNE You’re right. We shouldn’t clean anything up. That’ll look suspicious. Good thinking... FIONA Alex... ALEXANNE Yeah? FIONA There are no words... no...words... ALEXANNE Then just stay quiet. I’m an expert at staying quiet. Fiona looks at Alexanne and sighs. Alexanne smiles at Fiona, and after a long moment, Fiona smiles back. ALEXANNE There we go... now... wasn’t that fun? Alexanne takes Fiona’s hands in hers as the: LIGHTS FADE. END OF PLAY
