GRYFFINDOR Chapter 4 Summary
A Function and Not A Function It is a function if a vertical line only crosses a graph once. It is NOT a function if a vertical line crosses a graph more than once. *A function is represented as y= f(x) Moving/Translating a Function if y= f(x) and n= any number y= f(x)+n, the graph moves up by n. y= f(x)-n, the graph moves down by n y= f(x+n), the graph moves left by n. y= f(x-n), the graph moves right by n. Reflection of a Function if y= f(x) y= f(-x), the graph is reflected across the y-axis y= -f(x), the graph is reflected across the x-axis Stretching a Function if y= f(x) and n= any number. y= f(x/n), the graph stretches vertically.

y= 2*f(x), the graph stretches horizontally. Parabolas if *n= any number the graph moves up by n. the graph moves down by n. the graph moves left by n. the grpah moves right by n.

Square root , creates a line that goes up by a certain number , creates a line that goes down by a certain number , makes the line go to the left 2 times; +n makes the line go up by a certain number , makes the line go to the right 3 times; -n makes the line go down by a certain number Absolute Value -everything that goes inside \left| \right|ll will always make positive numbers =x =x , positive number inside the absolute value will always become positive ,any negative number inside the absolute value will become positive ,-2 the negative makes the function negative; makes it go to the right 2 times; you can see the vertex up 3 times in y-axis , makes it go to the left 3 times; dividing it by 2 makes *n=any number

it a positive function; you can see the vertex go down 4 times in y-axis
