adopt a more effective
approach, listening is by
far the most important.
That’s right! You have to
practicing listening—and lots of it.

Domineering styles are really just displays of pent-up energy
generated by low self-esteem and fear. This person rarely demon-
strates listening, and instead talks to deflect all possible and imag-
ined threats. And these feelings of self-doubt run like a never-ending
tape through a domineering person’s brain.

But by listening—truly listening—you break the focus on your
own fears and self-doubts, and instead put the focus on someone
else. And that also redirects your energy from talking to listening
in order to learn what’s in someone else’s head.
