STATEMENT BY ASSEMBLYMAN VITO LOPEZ, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2012, 5:30 P.M.

IN THE LAST 10 DAYS, THERE HAVE BEEN A SERIES OF ALLEGATIONS THAT ARE POLITICALLY MOTIVATED, AS WELL AS UNETHICAL OR ILLEGAL LEAKS ABOUT CONFIDENTIAL AGREEMENTS, AND STATEMENTS WITH THE PRINCIPLE MOTIVE OF DESTROYING MY CREDIBILITY AND ELECTION OPTIONS. I HAVE REPRESENTED THE RESIDENTS OF BUSHWICK AND WILLIAMSBURG (53rd A.D.) FOR APPROXIMATELY 28 YEARS. I HAVE RECEIVED THE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT OF THE VOTERS IN EACH OF MY FOURTEEN ELECTIONS. EARLIER THIS YEAR OVER 250 COMMUNITY RESIDENTS AND LEADERS OBTAINED OVER 7,000 PETITION SIGNATURES (THE LARGEST NUMBER IN KINGS COUNTY) TO AFFORD ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR THE ASSEMBLY THIS NOVEMBER. IN RECENT DAYS, OUTSIDE INDIVIDUALS AND INTEREST GROUPS HAVE ASKED FOR ME TO RESIGN AS THE ASSEMBLYMAN OF THE 53RD ASSEMBLY DISTRICT (BUSHWICK AND WILLIAMSBURG). I BELIEVE THE PEOPLE SHOULD DECIDE WHO SHOULD REPRESENT THEM. I WILL NOT CAPITULATE TO THOSE SELF-SERVING TACTICS AND DEMANDS. LET THE CONSTITUENTS OF THE 53RD ASSEMBLY DISTRICT DECIDE WHO THEIR REPRESENTATIVE IS.
