ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Rise is a prominent non-profit organization that supports people who have disabilities and other barriers to employment, focusing on assisting individuals with housing, vocational achievement, self-sufficiency, and connection in the broader community. Further, Rise is dedicated to promoting public policy furthering the acceptance of all citizens and supporting the development of creative partnerships with businesses, government agencies, and the general public to meet this objective. Founded in 1971, Rise is headquartered in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. There are over 320 professional staff carrying out the organizations mission from 20 locations throughout the Twin Cities metro, Central and East Central Minnesota locations including in Minneapolis, Golden Valley, Bloomington, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Elk River, Anoka, Cambridge, Mora, and Lindstrom. Rise offers 40-plus programs serving over 4000 people annually. These programs focus on: Employment: Vocational evaluation, job training, job placement, job coaching, supported employment. Community Integration: Community-based training and employment, community respite services, rehabilitative mental health, day training and habilitation, adult day programs, refugee services. Housing Support: Independent living skills services, homelessness prevention, affordable housing resources, rental subsidies and outreach and emergency services. Each program area is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Rises Transportation Services fleet of 80-plus vehicles drives approximately 2.5 million miles each year taking more than 600 people from home to their work site every day. The Family Life Mental Health Center (FLMHC) located in Coon Rapids is a subsidiary of Rise. FLMHC is a state-approved clinic providing multidisciplinary treatment of serious and persistent mental illness. Rise also provides business solutions to hundreds of Minnesota companies through customized job placement, contract labor, and subcontract production services. OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION


With an annual budget of around $27 million (plus responsibility for $2.6 million in revenue associated with the Family Life Center) and reporting to the Board of Directors, the President will provide strategic and tactical leadership for all aspects of the organization. The President will have responsibility for fulfilling the Rise mission, working through staff, volunteers and stakeholders. He or she will oversee all programs, finances and human resources, as well as the administration and development of the staff in a complex, multisite, multi-program organization. There are over 320 staff at Rise, assisting the organization in the achievement of its mission. This position is available as part of a planned succession for John J. Barrett, longtime CEO of Rise, who has indicated his interest in moving toward retirement. Mr. Barrett will continue in his position at Rise through December 2012, but will also be available as a valuable resource during the transition of the new President. A tenured group of managers have provided consistent leadership at Rise over the years. Key staff positions within the organization are: Two Vice Presidents, Chief Financial Officer, Directors of Customized Employment-Metro Area, Customized Employment and Mental Health Housing for Region 7E and 7W, and MFIP and WIP Programs, Public Relations

Director, Human Resources Director, Executive Director of Family Life Center, Mental Health Housing Coordinator, Production Manager, Sales & Marketing Representative, IT Manager and a Development Consultant.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement the organizations strategic plan by clearly outlining organizational goals focused on maintaining stability for current programs but also plans for organizational growth. Promote and develop excellence in the Rise staff. Hire and retain qualified and capable team members and sustain and build a positive internal culture that makes Rise an attractive place to work. Motivate and inspire staff and external supporters through visionary leadership, setting clear direction and clearly communicating the Rise vision. Maintain strong and effective relationships with all functional areas at Rise, ensuring the coordination of activities between departments, the efficient implementation of services and programs, and the establishment of responsibilities and procedures, as needed, for achieving Rise goals and objectives. Build positive relationships with external constituencies, such as governmental agencies, business customers and non-profit partners and fellow service providers. Grow the development function. Partner with the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers as the organization designs, strengthens and implements new and expanded efforts to increase donor support. Collaborate with the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, and staff in making strategic and timely decisions. Involve key team members whenever possible and delegate decisions to appropriate levels. Be an active and articulate advocate for Rise to further the understanding and support of Rise in the greater community. Manage with good business instincts and effective operational, marketing and financial management skills. Evaluate current operations and support services; lead an approach toward adopting best practices in all functions. Enthusiastically live the values of the Rise organization, evoking a care and passion for all individuals in the community and a spirit of cooperation to assist all persons in achieving their dreams.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced and visionary leader with a concern and passion for the empowerment of all people, including those with disabilities and special needs. The successful candidate will be a person of high ethical standards and integrity. He or she will bring a stature in the community with proven multi-functional leadership experience, exemplary financial management skills, and a strong commitment to raising the visibility and impact of Rise. Other experiences such as fundraising, community/government relations and partnerships will all be valued components of this role.

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required with a Masters degree preferred. Experience with programmatic leadership, fundraising, advocacy, and community partnerships are key qualifications. Other preferred skills and experience include: Previous experience leading an organization or company division of at least $10M in revenues as President, CEO, Executive Director or COO. Demonstrated financial acumen and skills. The ability to understand, assimilate and discuss the financial measures of a complex non-profit such as Rise. Experience operating in a highly complex organization along with an ability to provide oversight for multiple sites, programs and funding sources. This will include the ability to work with and oversee a subsidiary organization. Broad thinking skills, especially the ability to think strategically about achieving the organizations future goals. The ability to improve and modify the organizations structure and processes to achieve best practices and react to challenging economic times. The ability to attract and solicit financial resources for the organization, including enhancing a culture of philanthropy within the organization; this includes identifying and implementing strong program plans and strategies that attract donations and gifts. Exemplary interpersonal skills including the ability to engage and interact with key leaders from the communitys businesses, government, nonprofit organizations, foundations and other target audiences. Ability to quickly learn and master complicated federal, county and state government regulations and rules relating to this industry. The skill and experience to motivate, coach and develop staff and volunteers to meet objectives including anticipating challenges, identifying issues and developing solutions. Experienced leadership skills with a track record of leading and motivating people at all levels in organizations. The ability to work effectively on a collaborative basis with a wide range of constituencies and stakeholders in a diverse community. The interpersonal presence to be the face of Rise to the broader public. Previous experience working productively with a Board of Directors.

To be successful inside of the Rise culture, the candidate must be: A kind and gracious leader who values the dignity of all individuals and who is a model of authenticity, credibility and ethical conduct. A credible communicator who has a respectful and accessible leadership style. He or she must be comfortable interacting with all levels of staff, board members, clients, volunteers, community and business partners, funders and other constituencies. A well-organized and competent executor of plans and strategies. The President will be skilled in finding efficiencies and seeking the most effective ways to provide excellent services to clients. A strategic thinker who, working with the board of directors, can set future direction for Rise and lead the organization confidently through growth and change. Passionate about working with and for the social services community.

COMPENSATION
The compensation package for this position is competitive and attractive. It includes an executive pay structure and participation in the organizations comprehensive benefits plan.
