ACUTE DIARRHEA IN CHILDREN

Definition DIARRHEA → Abnormal defecation  Consistency Alteration soft → watery  Frequency > 3 times/24 hours ACUTE DIARRHEA → < 14 days .

Etiology Infection Food Intoxication Malabsorption Diarrhea Immunodeficiency Allergy Miscellaneous .

Pathomechanism • Secretory • Invasive or dysentery form • Osmotic .

Normal Sunken eye (+) (-) Wet Dry Drinks normally. Evaluate skin turgor Goes back very slowly* 3. weak or unconscious Very sunken eye and dry (-) Very dry Drink poorly* or not able to drink Good. Grade dehydration WITHOUT DEHYDRATION ( Plan A ) MILD TO MODERATE DEHYDRATION If 1 * + 1 /more other signs ( Plan B ) SEVERE DEHYDRATION If 1 * + 1 /more other signs ( Plan C ) . drink thirsty eagerly Goes back quickly Goes back slowly* 2. conscious Irritable*. not Thirsty*. Look: General appearance Eye Tears Mouth & tongue Thirst A B C Malaise*.Assessment of Grade Dehydration Assessment 1.
