June June is from Nickelodeon’s hit show Kablam, “where cartoons and comics collide”. She “hosts” the show with her partner, Henry, and they also get into a lot of weird antics as they go. Honestly, I wouldn’t say June was my absolute favorite cartoon character but I related to her a lot. I was really shy before and I’d constantly hide behind my mom’s legs when company came by but when I watched June and Henry on Kablam, I saw fun kids who weren’t scared of anything. The one thing I didn’t like about the show at the time was that there was no girl in it other than the ones in the comics, or so I thought. When I was a kid, I always thought that June was a boy. She wore a red flannel shirt and jeans and I, since I couldn’t tell at the time that her hair was tied up, I thought she had short hair and was, therefore, a boy. It might not have been “politically correct” or anything but with girls in the old cartoons always being portrayed as pretty damsels with long flowing hair and an even longer skirt, it wasn’t surprising that I would assume that June was a boy and normally, I didn’t love the boy characters in any cartoon series (with the exception being The Power Rangers but that’s another story). Despite the differences, I always loved the parts of Kablam where June and Henry would just do fun things and I even tried to turn my eyelids inside out and touch my nose with my tongue like June did in one of the episodes. It was great to see someone on TV who was just as weird as I was deep down and I did grow up to be like that after a few years. Again, I wouldn’t say that June was my favorite character but she was someone I wanted to be more like at the time. Someone outgoing and just a little crazy too.
