Course Competence To enhance students understanding on writing paragraphs. Especially, writing English in paragraphs with the essence and structure of paragraph and also to encourage students to write English by using simple sentences with concerning on the English patterns. Moreover, the paragraph should be coherent and unity. Course Description The course is designed to explore students comprehending on broader point of view on writing English. In general, writing English needs many items, like unity, coherence, transition signals and structure patterns that will be learnt like: adverb, independent and dependant clauses, adjective clauses, fragments and so forth. The students will be given this course after getting the course of Writing 1. Topics 1. Review of the topic of writing I a. Writing Process: prewriting, writing the first draft, editing the first draft and writing the final draft. b. Paragraph Form : Paragraph, indenting, margins and title c. Prewriting : Free writing, taking notes, brainstorming, descriptive details, and clustering d. Sentence Structure : Sentence, subject and verb, punctuation, capitalization, simple sentence, compound sentence, coordinating conjunction, prepositional phrases 2. Three Parts of Paragraph a. Topic sentence : topic and controlling idea, narrowing controlling ideas from general to specific b. Supporting sentence c. Concluding sentence d. Writing Practice
