For each film, she engages the reader by explaining how the music was excerpted (and changed, in some cases), and how the historical facts about a musical piece add layers of meaning—sometimes unintended—to the films.

      Christine Gengaro did her homework, and this book has a great deal of information about the music used in Kubrick's movies. She went to the Kubrick archive, interviewed Jan Harlan, Gerald Fried and others, and there's a lot of stuff in here that I didn't know. But do not expect any kind of profound analysis of the music -- except in some instances, as when she talks about Ligeti's Musica Ricercata in Eyes Wide Shut. For a detailed analysis of the music and the movies, try Michel Chion: Kubrick's Cinema Odyssey and his BFI monograph on Eyes Wide Shut.
