1. Word Problem
Two racing cars are traveling 600 kilometers with a fixed speed. Car A runs at the speed 20 km/h faster than car B. Also, car A arrived an hour earlier than car B. Than what is the speed of car A?

2. Equation
Lets set x km/h as the speed of car A (since the speed is a positive number, x>0.) Than, the speed of car B would be x-20 km/h.
Since car A arrived an hour earlier than car B, the equation is as follows:

3. Wolfram-alpha

Wolfram-alpha (2)

Wolfram-alpha (3)

Wolfram-alpha (4)
There are two possible solutions of x. But since x is a positive number we should take 120 as the solution. So, car A races at the speed of 120 km/h.

4. Check the answer

If car A races at the speed of 120 km/h, it will take 5 hours for car A to travel 600 kilometers. Car B will travel at the speed of 100 km/h. So, B will finish in 6 hours. Thus, this solution perfectly fits the conditions of the problem.
