Since my election, becoming I’ve used my extensive business background and experience to make substantial changes in how the Treasurer’s Office functions. Why is this important? Because I’ve increased transparency and accountability to you—the taxpayer.
We implemented a new system for collecting parking fines that includes a complete audit trail from the moment a ticket is written until it is paid or dismissed. It allows for online payment and automated follow-up for past due tickets, resulting in higher revenue and a process that is fair to everyone.
Sound Fiscal Management
The current administration has not budgeted for the full cost of our landfill, so we face a looming financial crisis in seven years when the landfill closes for good. To prevent unnecessary cuts in City services and jobs, I used my authority as Chief Fiscal Officer to make sure that the money we borrowed to expand the landfill is paid back while we still have revenue from the landfill to pay the bill.
Tax incentives need to come with accountability, like creating good local jobs. Together with my fellow board members on the Industrial Development Agency, we instituted better evaluation tools for new construction and redevelopment projects. For me, economic development means investing in our neighborhoods, side-by-side with residents and taxpayers like you.
