“JOY IN SERVICE” SERVICE”
M
ary Immaculate Parish (MIP) began the month of March on a joyful note with a First Quarter Fellowship. The fellowship night, held last 10 March 2012, was attended by different organizations, committees, commissions, and members of our parish community. It bore the theme “Joy in Serving the Lord” – and indeed, that joy was maintained throughout the evening.

Following the 6:00 PM Eucharistic celebration, guests enjoyed a hearty snack at the parish grounds, after which the evening fellowship commenced with opening remarks from Alay Kay Maria chairperson, Sis Emma Pacis; followed by joyful dancing and singing with the Charismatic movement led by Sis Baby Narzoles; and serving as worship leader was Lay Apostolate Commission chairperson, Sis Diding Guiriba. Bro Joel and Sis Jo Abellanosa introduced and read, respectively, the Word of Life for the month of March. Penned by Chiara Lubich, it began with a beautiful excerpt from the Gospel of John, “Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom we shall go? You have the words of eternal life.’” The personal stories shared by Sis Rexie Casim of Focolare and Sis Jessica Soria of the Flames of Fire for Jesus were filled with much emotion. They spoke of their joy in serving the Lord through the Parish, through their respective communities, and through their families and loved ones. They spoke passionately of finding love, peace, fullness and faith in God’s unconditional love, divine plans and awesome generosity. The invited speaker, Bro Arnel Cariño, is co-founder and head servant of Domus Nazareth Charismatic Renewal Community based in Mandaluyong. As stated in its mission, Domus

Parish Planning Workshop maps activities for 2012
Some 70 participants coming from various parish commissions, ministries and mandated organizations trooped to the Mariapolis Center in Tagaytay City on 01-02 March 2012 for the annual Mary Immaculate Parish Planning Workshop with the theme “Samasamang Paglalakbay sa Liwanag ng Salita ng Diyos, sa patnubay ni Inang Maria.” Fr. Fidel Fabile was on hand to welcome the delegates. A Mass was offered upon arrival for the success of the Workshop and the rest of the evening was spent in recollection with Fr. Alvin Raypan of the Focolare Movement sharing some of his insights. The 11 Commissions [Worship, Education, Service, Tem por al i t i es, Mai nt enanc e, Apost ol at e, Communication, Family Life, Lay Apostolate, Youth and the Yuppies] each gave assessment reports for the past year and then presented their plans and programs for the year 2012. Implementing Council and Execom head Bro. Ariel Caacbay assured the commissions of the parish’s support in realizing their plans. The theme for this year is in accordance with the call of Most Rev. Jesse E. Mercado, Bishop of Parañaque, to “let the Word of God inspire, sustain and perfect all p a st o ra l p ro gr am s by beginning every endeavor and meeting with a prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture.” He encouraged everyone “never to be afraid of the Word of God” and its power of transformation in our lives. 

The Secretariat (Communication Team) poses with Fr. Fidel at the end of the planning sessions.

Shunning technology, he used a black board and a stick of chalk to provide intricate illustrations of God’s mercy and love. He made the Word understandable by using songs and stories to open his audience’s minds and touch their hearts. Plainly put, happiness and joy may sound similar, but they are poles apart. Happiness is temporal and man-made, while joy is a gift from God. And the beauty of serving the Lord joyfully through his Church and others is that the service itself is its own reward. Joy in serving the Lord is not just remembered prayer, but it is living in prayer. It is faithful obedience to the God of mercy and grace; it bears with it that unshakable knowledge that even in the darkest and trying of moments, we shall and can remain still, and know that He is God, and He is with us. At the end of Bro Arnel's 2-hour teaching and demonstration of his many gifts was the offering of prayer intentions and a short praise and worship. The audience was left in awe, some scratched their heads, some had goosebumps, but for sure, everyone felt changed (for the better). Fr. Fidel Fabile briefly expressed his appreciation to Bro Arnel for visiting our parish and proclaiming the Word. Indeed, joy is God’s gift to us; but whatever we do with this gift and what we do unto others, is our gift to God. by:V.Cuaresma
