Discretion, Gradualness & Prayer
“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault…if he listens to you, you have won over your brother…Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven...if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father.” Mt 18:15-20 Today’s Gospel passage gives us some simple guidelines which single out discretion, gradual actions and the importance of prayer. We treasure our cordial relationship with our elders, brothers, sisters, relatives, and friends so much so that are careful to commit any offensive action against them that will strain our otherwise amiable relationship. We see to it that whatever we do will be pleasing and wholesome. Nonetheless, human as we are, we commit mistakes wittingly or unwittingly. If we are in a situation where one of our relatives or close friends committed a transgression and we sincerely love and care for that person, prudence dictates that we ought to correct him/her and try to let the person realize his wrongdoing. We try to find a way that would not appear offensive to the person. This is where the dilemma arises. As much as possible, we would like to nurture and maintain our relationships, not tarnish it with misunderstandings. We hesitate to approach the person face-to-face and unfortunately, resort to talking about it behind his back, engaging in “tsismis.” In so doing, we did not solve the problem and instead, added on to it. The Gospel invites us to helpi our brothers, sisters, relatives or friends who go astray. It reminds us that being isolated is not part of our nature. We are created for social unity; called to be united to one another. Our nature is not to be a “lone ranger” in our Christian life. Cont…page 2

THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, ENTREPRENEURS AND WORKERS (YPEW) organized a fun run entitled “Takbo para kay Inang Maria 2” held last October 22, 2011 at Aventine Hills, BF Resort, Las Piñas. The YPEW organized this fun run in order to help raise funds for the Operation Thanks a Lot project since part of the proceeds will be given to help in purchasing the extension lot of our parish. This is the second time to have a fun run in our parish and this year’s Takbo is definitely bigger and better. The event started at 5AM with an opening prayer led by our parish priest Fr. Fidel Fabile followed by a warm up by Fitness First. The 5K runners went first, and the 3K runners ran afterwards. Many participated in this year’s fun run – with a whopping 500 registered runners! Everyone enjoyed themselves through running for our Blessed Mother. Angela and E-boy of Pinoy Biggest Loser also came and graced the event. To the delight of the Takbo para kay Inang Maria 2 runners, some of the sponsors had some giveaways. Among this year’s sponsors are: Pocari Sweat (official beverage partner of the Takbo), Panaderia Pantoja, Greencross, San Miguel Corp. (Magnolia Lite), Up Coffee, 3Glovision Inc., Aqua Travel & Tours, J’s Nature Garden, RCBC, FMV Printing Press, Toperios Catering, Kawasaki Phils., and Sanofi Aventis (Cenovis Fish Oil and Essential Liver Fit). Red Cross volunteers and representatives from the Las Piñas police and barangay were also present to ensure the safety of the runners. While waiting for the final runner to reach the finish line, an intermission number was presented by the Singles for Christ (SFC) flash mob dancers. Aside from the fun run, the Takbo para kay Inang Maria 2 event also included a raffle which included (3) MyPhone units and (1) iPod Shuffle from Teletech. The following are the winners of the Takbo: 5k Women’s Division> Kelly Crisostomo (1st Place), Nao Checa (2nd Place), and Lisa Navarro (3rd Place). 3k Women’s Division> Mary Ann Abad (1st Place), Carolyn Yee (2nd Place), and Angela Lupango of Pinoy Biggest Loser (3rd Place). Winners for the 3k and 5k Men’s Division were also awarded medals, cash prizes and gift packs from Sanofi Aventis. The YPEW would like to thank all the sponsors and everyone who supported the Takbo para kay Inang Maria 2. Congratulations to all the winners and for making our event a success! ►Bro Kristoffer Z. SHEPHERDING continued from page 1. This communitarian character is developed and consummated by Jesus when He offered His life for each and every one of us to redeem us from our sins. Being communitarian in spirit, we are encouraged by God to render mutual service according to the talent and capacity accorded to us. Serving others is part of our being a Christian. Therefore, the basis of “brotherly correction” should be mutual love. The initiative to correct our erring brothers or sisters should not be misconstrued as an offense but rather be thanked and appreciated because the person doing it has the compassion and sympathy towards his neighbor. The Gospel suggests that fraternal correction can be done in this way: first, talk to the person alone and listen with rapt attention so that he can feel the warmth of your concern and love. Many times people are judged without them knowing the wrong they have done—they are simply not aware of it. Second, if the person is not convinced yet, invite a friend of yours or relative, as a witness. Confidentiality is a key; it builds trust. However, if private admonition fails to make him realize his sin and bring him to repentance, then the help of one or two others can be invoked. And thirdly, if all fails, go to the church and request the assistance of your pastor or priest. Offer a chance at forgiveness. Ask the whole community to pray for that person. As the Gospel says, when two or more are united in prayer, it will be granted. Be patient; healing will come thereafter. Do not force the issue. Do not give up. Instead, continue to pray and hope that one day the person you are praying for will change for the better. Jesus teaches us to love one another, even those who are very difficult to love. The Gospel invites us to have not only a sense of correction but a sense of mutual service as well. To exert a great deal of effort to perform noble and virtuous deeds toward our brothers and sisters, the Church and the community is part of being a Christian. It is our commitment, our connection to our Lord Jesus Christ because we are part of this community. My dear friend, having said this, let us try to exert more effort in loving one another. Pointing out the faults of others should be done with love and concern. Likewise, ignoring the mistakes of others is not a good way of loving that person. In the end, what matters is not to maintain the honor of the community, but to win back the erring brother. Learn to forgive so that you may also earn forgiveness. Never cease to pray, not only for ourselves but also for others. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." ◙

THE TEMPORALITIES/FINANCE COMMISSION OF THE MIP, headed by no less than our City Councilor Ruben Ramos, went out of its way to visit our parishioners last November 12, 2011 in their respective houses. Councilor Ruben Ramos and his team — Marilou Ramos, Nitz Liban, Hazel Nadal, Tess Magnaye, Remy Castillo, Fely Abrasaldo and Lydia Noble among others — started their day at 8AM moving from one house to another disseminating leaflets and explaining the Mary Immaculate Parish "Thanks A Lot" project. In addition to this house-to-house campaign, Councilor Ramos has also been making such announcements in practically all masses of MIP since he assumed the post of head of the Temporalities Commission. Project “Thanks A Lot” is his baby project, and we can see it picking up! Our parishioners understood the need to raise funds for the acquisition of the lot beside the MIP Church which we had been using for many years now. He began the house-to-house campaign to reach our fellow-parishioners who may not been able to attend Mass at the parish. Aside from project "Thanks A Lot", the Temporalities commission also spearheads the selling of the Ossuary Garden niches. Records show that from February 2011, they have sold 261 niches to date! Inspired by the active fund-raising efforts of Councilor Ramos and his Temporalities team, a parishioner who happens to be an executive of East West Bank (EWB), decided to help out our parish through her bank. After several meetings with the executives of EWB, the “EastWestBank Credit Card Mo, Sa Parokya Natin Makakatulong Din Ito” program was born. Through this program, EWB credit card applicants may course their forms through the MIP parish office — and for each approved and activated credit card, East West Bank shall make a donation of PhP2,000 to the MIP, while passing on the recognition for the donation to the person whose credit card was approved! The Temporalities team’s house-to-house ended at 6PM, drained but with hearts filled with hope for the success of their projects. ► Sis Dolly Bonoan

ONE OF THE SERVICE AREAS OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS (KC) is the church and among the activities rendered in this area is the promotion of the Holy Rosary. It has been an annual activity of District P-27 to hold a Living Rosary participated in by the members of the four (4) councils of the district. Every year, the venue transfers from one council to another. This 2011, the Las Piñas Council 7618 was designated as Living Rosary sponsor. The Living Rosary was held last October 8 at 4:00 pm at the Multi-purpose Hall of Mary Immaculate Parish. All four Knights of Columbus councils of District P-27 – Co. 7618 of MIP, Co. 9588 of Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, Co. 12508 of San Isidro Labrador Parish and Co. 6238 of Holy Family Parish – were represented by their Grand Knights and members. To draw wider involvement from among the parishioners, the traditionally exclusive participation by KC members was dispensed with and instead, Co. 7618 invited all the parish mandated organizations to actively take part in the activity and were given their respective roles during the Rosary. They were cooperative and enthusiastic making the Living Rosary a resounding success. We thank everyone for their active response to the call of Our Lady of Fatima to pray the Rosary, to promote devotion to her Immaculate Heart and for supporting this noble endeavor. ► Bro Celso Ilao
