FuNDINg, LIES, AND LIARS…
Hopefully, sometime before it is too late, the overwhelming majority of the American public will wake up and realize they have been allowing themselves to be systematically manipulated. We certainly aren’t the only ones who believe the public has become increasingly gullible. For a local example, all one needs to do is to read the editorial pages of the San Diego Union Tribune and it is clear that the new owner and editors are well aware of the current low tide of the public’s ability, or desire, to think critically. When the public possesses the requisite skills, and then uses them, they find that it is fairly easy to differentiate between blatant BS and reasoned opinions. We could go on. We have gone on. For years we have gone on and on. In various issues of the Hoodlink, we’ve written about the difference between relating differing perspectives of the truth versus fabricating stories designed to build or destroy by hoodwinking the public. There really are no two ways around it, the major supporters of Stocks, Muir, and Forrester are either liars or are willing to spend money to have other people lie for them. Those who favored the endorsement of the three in the Union Tribune and have caused campaign hit pieces to be mailed are well-funded liars. Since Lisa Shaffer and Tony Kranz are both good people who are actually involved in “business” and certainly seem to be more fiscally conservative and responsible than either of the two incumbents, the foundational basis of the UT’s editorial which casts them as anti-business liberals is bogus bait. When lies are the best tool you have to discredit your opponent, what is it you are hiding behind your lies? Clearly not all of the supporters of these three men are liars and cheaters. Surely there are good, honest, perhaps somewhat shortsighted or naïve, Encinitas-loving people who are supporting one or more of the three men. We are sure there are well mannered supporters of Forrester who like his

vision of Encinitas developing more rapidly along the lines of Manhattan Beach up in L.A. There may be supporters of Muir who believe that he is an excellent, upstanding, role model for our kids and will make Encinitas safer for everyone because he is a retired fire chief. There may be supporters of Stocks who believe he is responsible for all the good things that have happened here in our sleepy, bucolic, coastal town for the past ten years. Whether we agree with the views of these hypothetical supporters or not, we understand that not everyone wants the same future as do we. People, who have the vision for the Encinitas of tomorrow to emulate Manhattan Beach, have the right to their dreams. They have the right to buy property in an attempt to be a part of fulfilling their dreams. They have the right to advocate for the changes to laws and the General Plan that would facilitate their dreams. On the other hand, all of the citizens and all of the property owners also have the right to elect representatives who will actually make sure we have a General Plan that works for everyone, not just for the guys with the wood for a dense housing dream. That is what honestly-elected representatives are for: to represent the people. Having candidates who are being up-front with the voters, all of the time, is important to every honest person, regardless of their vision or dreams. At the first 2012 candidates forum, Stocks and Muir both made promises to not use campaign mailer hit pieces. Stocks went further and made the big-deal claim that he has never sent out campaign hit pieces. Not Ever! Parsing words is an interesting game played by our Mr. Mayor. No, he may not have designed the hit pieces on Tony and Lisa. No, he may not have physically dropped the mailers with their vacuous distortions and lies into the mailbox at the post office. Yes, the treasurer of record for his campaign is also the treasurer of record for the group that produced and mailed that first hit piece. Weasel words or lies?

So, what does it say about the character of these three men, and their vision for the future of Encinitas, that they welcome the well-funded support of those who so easily lie and cheat in an effort to win? What is it that causes their major supporters to act so pathologically antisocial at the thought of an Encinitas City Council without a Stocks, Muir, Gaspar, and Forrester supermajority? To us, it says a lot and it says it loud and clear. Please help us tell the three men and their well-funded supporters we got their message. Say no to all of them… Ours is a different dream! If you have already voted for Lisa Shaffer and Tony Kranz, thank you. If you have yet to vote, please vote for Lisa and Tony. They have more to offer Encinitas than lies, hit pieces, and deception.

In a previous issue we recommended not voting for either proposition L or M. We’ve discussed this with a variety of people and have changed our minds. In the event that K passes, L getting more votes than M would help reduce the chance that an elected mayor would be able to keep the minority position unheard. Please vote yes on L.

This is a non-partisan office!
Just like the Encinitas City Council, County Supervisors hold a non-partisan position. Republican readers of the Hoodlink may be tempted to vote for the candidate who has the high-profile backing of many San Diego Republicans. If this describes you, we offer a few points for you to consider, and an alternative.

1) Our outgoing supervisor, Pam Slater-Price is a Republican. She has endorsed Dave Roberts to replace her. 2) You read the Hoodlink, so it is likely that you are not real happy with Jerome Stocks and the way he runs both his campaigns and our City. Stocks is a co-chairman of Steve Danon’s campaign.

3) Danon is endorsed and funded by the same groups of people who support Stocks and have been putting out the hit mailers against Tony and Lisa. Please, seriously consider sending the San Diego nasty partisan politics groups a strong message and vote for Dave Roberts.
