Have you been flooded? Do you know anyone who has?

Want to get involved in a community project, meet new friends and explore local flooding issues? Get involved with ‘Greenstreets’!

What’s it about?
Urban Partnership Group, with London Sustainability Exchange, are seeking volunteers to be part of a year-long project looking at the problem of flooding in Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith & Fulham. The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) has the third highest number of properties at risk of flooding in England, while the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have over 5,000 properties at risk.

Benefits of joining

• Work with friends and neighbours to contribute to local civic society • Be part of a pilot project that could see future London becoming greener, prettier and more resilient to flooding • Gain new knowledge, skills and experience

• Contribute to a ‘bottom-up’ approach, acting as the voice of the community, instead of being ‘told’ what’s going to happen • Contribute locally measured data from local people to inform the approach • Talk to friends and neighbours – talk to new people and have fun doing it

What would I be doing?
• Act as a ‘community champion’, sharing knowledge and information with
other residents at events and workshops • Learn about SuDS (Sustainable urban drainage systems) and how they can contribute to reducing flooding • Participate in decision making such as finalising the choice of streets that will benefit from SuDS measures • Measure and record local flooding incidents • Engage and survey local residents • Help to evaluate the project’s successes and failures

How do I get involved?

Training on this will be held on 10.00 to 12.00 Friday 23rd November so please talk to Rosemarie on 0207 605 0800 or e mail rosemarie@upg.org.uk at UPG to get involved!
