School’s Out Club for Youth
for kids, ages 6—12, with disabilities Marion Diehl Rec. All of these activities are used to promote peer interaction and appropriate social skills, physical activity, and independence.

“Summit” Parent/Caregiver Group
Amelie’s Bakery and Café (in NoDa), 2424 N. Davidson Street December 11th (Tuesday) 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. FREE (participants may purchase food if desired) Karen.Howard@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov A monthly group for parents, guardians, and caregivers that is facilitated by a Therapeutic Recreation staff person but is directed by the group members. This FREE informal group gives participants the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents and caregivers who are experiencing the challenges of parenting a child, teen or young adult with a disability. Want to meet new people? Beyond the Book will allow individuals an opportunity to gain a new leisure skill or enhance their current leisure interest of reading, while meeting new people in the community in a casual setting. With input from the group we will pick an appropriate book to read followed by a group discussion. We will relate topics from the book to life, relationships, values and other topics of interest to you.

Spill Your Beans provides the opportunity for young women to talk about and gain support for issues they’re facing in their lives, such as health & safety, independent living, relationships, friendships, and self-esteem (participants will have the opportunity to choose the topics to learn about). Each month we will host a guest speaker or lead a discussion about issues that are important to you.

Fuel for Life
for young men with disabilities ages 16 and up Marion Diehl Recreation Center December 10th (Monday) 6:00 - 7:30 pm **We will be joining Spill your Beans this month for a winter social! $10.00 (does not include the cost of dinner) Abigail.Bergman@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Come hang out with the guys, fuel your body with a good dinner, and fuel your life with good conversation. Fuel for Life provides the opportunity for young men to talk about and gain support for issues they’re facing in their lives. Each month we will host guest speakers and discuss different topics, such as employment and job skills, relationships, life goals and values, and other topics that are important to you.

Band of Brothers
for young men with disabilities ages 18-35 Marion Diehl Recreation Center December 11th (Tuesday) 6:00pm-8:00pm $10.00 per meeting Ariel.Kliem@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Do you need a night out with the guys to relax and enjoy new activities? Come hang out with "Band of Brothers" every Tuesday night from 6-8pm. You can practice social skills, meet new people, enjoy community outings and develop positive relationships, all while enjoying some "guy time".

Wilderness Bunch
for teens & young adults with disabilities, ages 16-35 Drop off / Pick up at Marion Diehl Recreation Center 2219 Tyvola Road Friday-Sunday, December 7-9 3:30 pm (Friday) - 4:30 pm (Sunday) $150.00 for the weekend Karen.Howard@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Abigail.Bergman@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Join us for a winter camping trip to Morrow Mountain State Park! Wilderness Bunch is designed to teach basic skills needed for camping and participating in outdoor recreation. We will stay in cabins on this trip, and enjoy visiting the Exhibit Hall and Historical Site, hiking on the mountain, a nature scavenger hunt and maybe even some fishing! Participants should be independent in self care. Participants will need to bring: toiletries, towel, two changes of clothes, a sleeping bag, and a flash light. Be sure to bring clothing for chilly weather
