At Danakosa, March 2006 Here on this crowded bus to tranquil bliss I stood, my soul still south by four degrees

of latitude And eyed the cheerful pilgrims trying not to miss A chance to demonstrate a sound retreatist attitude And then the second day my soul turned up. It sneaked in on an altar candle flame Quite took me over as you looked up And after that my porridge didn’t taste the same. Your highland eyes speak wisdom, calm and love And crown the placid beauty that inhabits every move.
