PROJECTS
Underground Railroad in Western New York Residency October 2009 to Present, Lead Teaching Artist
Young Audiences of WNY had the unique opportunity in 2010, to spend several months developing a residency for school age students that would increase literacy and understanding of racial disparities, and access to African-American artists. With support from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, we worked with an advisory committee to create a program around the history of the Underground Railroad in Western New York. We continue providing this residency in schools throughout the eight counties of Western New York each year.

Stories Through the Microphone March 2010 to Present, Lead Teaching Artist, Young Audiences WNY
Youth-at-risk-for-educational-failure and incarcerated youth feel many things and have much to say but often their literary confidence levels are low and so are their literacy skills, in turn they feel no one wants to hear what they have

to say. "Stories Through the Microphone" workshops and residency program encourages kids to use their voices and words as a way to learn more about themselves and their world by developing performance poetry skills.
