Overview
This piece is a dark, hypnotic, descent into the mind of a ditzy high school girl. Stark, geometric graphic elements and type travel in and out of shadows, patterns morph and shift, disorienting the viewer and creating a sense of depth without boundaries. This sense of confusion is reinforced by the narration, which runs in circles, restating the same things without moving on to a point. The viewer is somehow trapped in the ordinarily inpenetrable mind of a teenage girl. This animation will attempt to follow in the tradition of Saul Bass, relying on simple graphic imagery and a minimal palette to create tension and movement. It pokes fun at the cliche of women being complicated by taking the harmless monologue of a girl offering dating advice and recasting it in a sinister light using the ominous theme from Vertigo. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Style, Palette, Imagery, Analogy

The look is bold and graphic. Elements are black and white with hints of color. Abstract shapes, patterns and type move fluidly through what feels like a darkness without end, while transforming and manipulating positive and negative space. Though this is mostly type driven, there will be additional elementsa spider spinning a web, a maze, and other visual metaphors suggesting the sinister state of a mind absent of reason and goodness.

WHAT DOES IT MOVE LIKE?

Scenes will have slow moving objects and camera movements that create a sense of impending danger followed by sweeping, violent transitions between environments just as the viewer gets their bearings.

WHAT DOES IT SOUND LIKE?

The music and narration move in circles creating a hypnotic tension that develops slowly and reels the viewer into the world of the piece.
