Tink and Act Anew:
How Poverty Afects Us All and What We Can Doabout It
was written to ocus a spotlight on the poor in America as thenation began to rebuild its economy in the atermath o the economiccrisis o 2008. Fr. Larry Snyder calls on everyone to reassess our priori-ties and our actions to ensure that as we rebuild we include the poorin our vision or the uture.Fr. Larry Snyder maintains that we exercise our love o God by desir-ing each person’s well-being, as well as the common good, and – asexpressed in the United States Constitution – the general welare. In Week #4, we will examine our societys economic and political phi-losophies to determine whether ree markets and the common goodcan be pursued together. We will debate the role government shouldplay in promoting the common good and protecting the most vulner-able o our citizens. Finally, we will dene the prophetic role o theChurch and examine how the principles o Catholic social teaching can be used to transorm commercial and public institutions withinthe ramework o the Constitution.
