Wi-MAX  Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access.

 WiMax enables the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.  Protocol designed for wireless communication (IEEE 802.16)  Covers longer distances about 40 km and has greater bandwidth.  Better when compared to Wi-Fi  Centralized access control collision.  WiMax is well suited to offer both fixed and mobile access.

Goal – To provide high speed internet access to home and business without wires. Support  Legacy voice systems  VoIP  TCP/IP  Applications with different QoS requirements Components  Access Points  SS- Subscriber station  BS- Base Station

then at first all information are send from SS #1 to BS.   All traffic goes through Base Station Base Station controls bandwidth on the radio channel. WiMax Infrastructure  WiMax Tower – Similar to cell phone tower. or could be built into a laptop. and then BS routes this information to SS #2.From SS to BS .The receiver and antenna could be a small box or PCMCIA card. Links  Downlink – From BS to SS  Uplink. Base Station can handle thousands of SS Example: If a SS #1 has to send information to SS #2. It can provide coverage to very large area  WiMax receiver .
